20ish - I only buy stuff that I can't easily rent at the local video store or that I think I'm gonna watch more than two or three times in the next 20 years. Rentals around here are $4+ so if I can pick up a DVD for less than $12, it's cost effective.

Nice inverse curve. Apparently the sickness starts at, oh, about 100? :)

I have probably 40-50, 10 or so of which are our daughters. The rest are mostly blockbuster previewed dvd's that I bought on sale and watch once. One of these days I'll throw a bunch of them up on ebay or FS/FT.

well, that's really a question of rate of degredation. I've read that VHS do that as well. Average projected lifespan for a VHS, assuming good storage conditions and everything, is 25-30 years. Projected lifespan for a DVD is 120-130 or so.

If you're into DVD's do yourself a favor and bookmark these excellent sites:
I would also like to add this site. Truly wonderful for finding out the release dates of DVDs from theaters, TV, music, anime, and direct to video. Easily one of, if not the, best I've ever found.
