Putting metal objects in a microwave generally will NOT deface the oven. HOWEVER, if you place a metal object close to the edge OR the object contains lots of thin filaments you risk setting the interior of the oven ablaze!
Really small objects placed in the oven for extended periods of time can cause the magnetron to overheat due to excessive standing waves. I'd recommend placing a 500 mL beaker of water to absorb excessive microwave energy when microwaving small targets.
Microwave ovens are also good to inflict severe damage to electronic devices without (external) evidence of malicious intent. For example, placing an annoying family member's furby in the oven for three seconds will render it inoperable forever. A co-worker's laptop computer can be handled the same way! I've nuked a palm pilot (magnetron was on for ONE second) and heard ONE crackle. Thing was good as dead. They make a good excuse to return unwanted hardware that has to be proved defective as well.
Please note that I don't endorse the use of microwave cooking appliances to be used in malicious ways! This information is for educational uses only! A kilowatt of 2.45 GHz radio waves should be treated with respect at all times.
With that said, happy µWaving!
Cheers!
