Taking the parts outta the wrappers takes the longest for me. ;) Other than that it's no problem. Trouble shooting it takes me AWHILE though. Hey, I'm suck at trouble shooting, so sue me. ;)

New computers parts are easy to deal with...I have my little straight out of the box test for Vid/CPU/RAM/MOBO before it's in the case. If it passes, then I stuff it in the case with everything else. If not, somethig is broken.

I picked 45 minutes, but I really don't know. Slapping new parts together doesn't take me too long, except for the motherboard mounting. That takes forever, once that's done it goes quickly and I'm only slowed down by difficult drive bays which are hard to reach with screws so I drop them.

When having to pull parts from an old computer, or even from multiple computers, then it takes fricking forever.

To actually make a working computer, I set aside at least an entire afternoon, for OS install and installation of core applications.

provided I have the required tools (which includes any jumpers, screws, spacers screwdrivers etc) and adequate space, I'd say about 10 minutes. Add another couple minutes if there are multiple hard drives, cause I suck at finding the jumper descriptions on some drives :)

[edit: Oh, was there a button where I could vote? LOL.]

Not too long to get parts out of the static bags and into the case after the MB is installed. Thta's the longest part of building a computer, puttin the MB into the case. I'm VERY careful when i do that.. Pushin and proddin on the MB to make sure it can't contact the case anywhere. Slappin the cards and drives in takes me no time at all.

Installing the OS takes a while.. That's what switch boxes were invented for. Switch over to new box, hit enter, switch over to workin box, continue to surf.

around 5 years ago i was working for a company that build computers, we had all the parts in one big box, all we had to do was plug and chug, so about 5 of us were putting together just the hardware in about 10 mins per computer, its not that bad, specially when you get similar systems over and over again, after a while you just "feel" how everything fits together.

The worst part is scouring the internet for 4 hours trying to find all the newest drivers and getting those all configured, and playing well together.

<< It takes me 5 to 10 minutes to fold the drive cables and tie off the power and LED cables to make sure there is adequate airflow >>

there is a special place in HELL reserved for the man who invented ribbon cables and the seemingly absurd way the connectors are placed on the cables, it is always the exact opposite of the way it needs to be.

It doesnt take me long to build a comp, but I usually tie all the cables, fold the ribbons, etc, make sure everything is perfect if im selling it to some1 else :)
so probably 1 hour or something like that not including OS install

25-30 mins for the HW.

4 hrs easy just to format, install, patch, and tweak it (coffee breaks in-between of course).

I just put together a computer a few days ago. I was surprised how little time it takes these days, what with all the PnP parts.

have you guys ever seen Micron put a pc together,

I seen them do it in their factory...it takeslike 3 minutes, to put all the hardware in, connect the cables, etc

wow! thats fast, but I prefer to take my time when I build, I cant afford to just throw a cd-rom in the "Defective" box and grab another one

3 minutes? that is psychotic... screwing in all the screws??? they cant possibly be caring for the components they install at that speed, especially the mobo, proc, vid card...

I would say approx. 20-30 min. But that is if you wnat it all messy in the insides. 1.5-2 hours for a nice clean job.
