POLL: How do you pronounce "Chicago"?

I was riding the Metra (train) to downtown today morning, and I've notice the announcer saying "Now entering, Chicago Union Station"- but it pronounced it differently from what/how I've heard/been saying it all my life. But, it WAS a recorded message, so it could mean that the original announcer is not a native to the place, ergo the odd pronounciation.

So, in your opinion, how do you pronounce "Chicago"?

I pronounce it SHI-cah-goh, but sometimes I'll jokingly pronounce is SHEE-cah-goh as that's how some friends from Chicago pronounce it.

 - so you say SHI - as in, like the word "shy"?

no, "shih" as in sh!t. ;)

Ah, gotcha - well, I meant "Shee" as far as pronouncing the "Sh", but I guess I really meant "Shih", as it would make more sense.

Anyhow, the announcer pronounced it "CHIH-cah-goh Union Station" - I know that there are a few Chicago ATOT'ers out there, so make sure to give a listen if you ever ride Metra into downtown Chicago!

I've lived here 16 years, I should know. The locals have an accent, so they actually pronounce it shee-caw-go
