I know that in the past the default on them used to be that if you pushed mouse forward you'd look down (like a joystick in a plane), but the default nowadays is that pushing forward your crosshairs goes up - which makes sense, given that when you push mouse forward your cursor goes up when navigating around your operating system. So, which do you use?

When i push forward the crosshairs go down. I tried playing the opposite setup but it feels impossible to get used to.

When I play a first person shooter, I don't want to feel as though I'm flying a cessna jet. I've tried using reverse Y axis, but never liked it much. It's only logical that when the mouse is pushed down the gun follows, and vise versa.

Wow. According to the poll, 33% use reverse Y-axis! I was under the impression that more then 95% use the default setting. Interesting..

That usually is the "reversed" setting. Default is usually forward=up.

My first computer games were flight simulators so I'm just used to the inverted "forward = down" scheme.

Logically speaking it should be reversed. After all what are you doing when you aim your gun? To aim UP you pull BACK on your elbows and torso, and thus that movement should go with pulling the mouse back.

That's just silly trying to make a reasonable comparison to real life movement. If you want real life go duck hunting! A game like counterstrike involves movement of the mouse. So does moving around windows. You move in windows where your hand goes the cursor goes. No reverse stuff. In a FPS games replace cursor with crosshairs and we plainly see that the forward_mouse = up_cursor is the same thing. Why train your brain two different ways?

I'm glad that you're able to play one of these games and mentally bridge the gap between moving your wrist an inch forward and picturing your torso, head, shoulders, elbow joints, and a weapon move. I wish I could too!

Of course I can't "mentally bridge the gap" but at least I'm not doing the exact opposite movements that should be happening.

Bump from another inverted mouse user. A mouse may work one way on the desktop, but it feels more natural when using it as a joystick when playing FPS games.

I've tried leaving it at the default (forward=up) but I might as well control it with my wang. I can't even run around with that setting, let alone play.

I don't know why my brain is wired that way, but it is. :)

Inverted for me. I've always played that way. Almost everone I know plays the other way round though. I tend to find old X-Wing players and the like use inverted. That damn game killed mice.
