I learn most of my stuff over in general hardware. For example, I will be going to a website soon to look for a low level format program due to the suggestion of one of the geniuses over there.

A lot of my general knowledge comes from reading trade rags (I'm sure you all get the same free computer related magazines I do) and books, but the my best learning has occured by having a management demo the next morning on hardware/software that doesn't work quite right yet and having to pull an all-nighter to slap it into shape. It's amazing how quickly you can learn things under pressure. 🙂

I totally agree, i once had to get a Xenix system reinstalled with all of the software for a specific database, i didn't know anything about Xenix before (or multiview which was another demand) and had to compile the kernel manually, man, that was a fast learning experience, i actually managed to pull it off too (begun my work at 18.00 was done at 07.30).

Like they say, knowledge is power but remember don't take the word of an 'expert' just becuase they say so. Find out why and if it makes sense then do it 😉
