but the my best learning has occured by having a management demo the next morning on hardware/software that doesn't work quite right yet and having to pull an all-nighter to slap it into shape. It's amazing how quickly you can learn things under pressure.

I totally agree, i once had to get a Xenix system reinstalled with all of the software for a specific database, i didn't know anything about Xenix before (or multiview which was another demand) and had to compile the kernel manually, man, that was a fast learning experience, i actually managed to pull it off too (begun my work at 18.00 was done at 07.30).
