<< I wrap my pointer finger from the other hand underneath the base knuckle of my thumb, and the the thumb from the other hand around the top of the knuckle. I press the thumb up and the knuckle seems to stretch and pop. >>

OMF!!! You just described my method to a tee (much better than I did, too, I might add).

This can't be happening... 😉

<< take finger curled down so that figertip is perpendicular to palm, with you oher hand, grasp the final bone at the tip of your curled finger, twist to the side (try to rotate your finger like a propeller). That pops the two joints at the end of the finger. then, push down at the base of the finger to crack the "normal" joint. >>

LOL that's what I do. But I do the fist push first and then the finger curls. Gets about 20 cracks 😀 Well I quit cracking my knuckles about a month ago (Completely stopped) since I was sucked into the myth that it'll give you arthiritis in the future 🙁

Hehe - cool. I've met ONE person in real live through my entire life who cracks their knuckles like I do. But he didn't crack his thumbs this way.

Thanks to years of cross-country and long-jumping, I can crack almost any join on my body.

Toes, ankle, knees, hip. Back, neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist, fingers, thumbs.

Iono how the years of sports helped, but hey, thats the only reason I can think of.

I crack my fingers by laying my fingers across the fingers of my other hand while the other thumb is behind the knuckles. I then pull the fingers back towards my wrist.

I crack my thumbs by putting it under my other fingers and applying pressure towards the palm. I just push down to crack my wrists. I whip my arm out to a straight position and it'll crack if i do it fast enough. My shoulders crack when I rotate them. Knees and hip, i dunno how to explain it.

I also sometimes crack my fingers individually with my thumb. I'll use the thumb to push the finger towards my palm.

Fist and push, then individual pops by pushing "fingernail joints" toward first bones in the fingers... Good for about 16 cracks.

I can also crack my wrist, neck and back. Toes if I'm lucky. 🙂 I can also contort my fingers into strange positions, so that none of my friends see where which finger is from which joint. 😱

Oh yeah... I can stretch my shoulder ligament (the ends of the bones separate about an inch).

I often crack my toes on the floor. My roommates hate it. I curl my toes under beneath my feet, and stand on them. Everything cracks, and it feels incredible.

Edit: My friend Fatalbert and I also used to play the old "cover your nose, click your front teeth with your thumbnails to make it sound like you're cracking your nose" trick. We did it so much that our noses actually started to crack. Mine still does 🙂 I don't know about Fatalbert's.

My hands have been SERIOUSLY fvcked up by years of less-than-ergonomically-correct computing. Whenever I move my thumb it makes a loud snap.

I picked the last one.

That's an old wive's tale.

Yeah, but it's the old wives who have arthritus, so maybe we better listen to them.

Question: Does cracking your joints especially the knuckles cause arthritis? What
are some of the results of doing so?
Renee Knuckles/Albemarle High School/Charlottesville, VA.

Answer:
Cracking knuckles has NEVER been associated with causing arthritis.
This concept is as wrong as saying weight lifting makes you short, or
playing basketball makes you tall.

The "popping" of the knuckles results from forcing joint fluid to
very rapidly pass from one side of the joint to the other, where the
"sides" are partitioned off by the main bones of the joint. Let me
rephrase that: a joint is an area where two or more separate and distinct
bones meet. The joint fluid provides a cushioning between the joints
so that they don't grate into each other. Cracking your knuckles forces
the joint fluid from one part of the joint to another, and the popping
sound is just the result of the high pressured rushing of fluid.

Rheumatoid arthritis is characterized by the loss of joint fluid from the
joint, but it results from damage to the linings of the joint itself.
It's tempting to claim that the high pressure flushing of fluid during
a knuckle "crack" can cause damage to the lining, but there simply is no
evidence to that effect. It was probably made up by some very sensitive
individuals who hate the "pop".

"this thread made me crack my knuckles. if i get arthritus in ten years because of it, i'm suing StinkyMeat."

Me too! Hehehe!

Well, I used to do the very basic knuckle cracking, but later I began practicing the "fist and push". It hurts! Ugh! Hehehe!

Well, I have stopped the habit for a long time now . . . years, years, years, until today! :Q 😛

Be prepared for some civil litigation. Hehehe! I'm kidding. 😉

I use all the methods you've described, except for the non-methods of course, you should add an "all of the above" choice to the poll. I have been trying to stop doing this but have done it since I was a child and it's a hard habit to break when you do it when you are nervous.
