i'm still stuck w/ XP, can't afford vista due to:

-suckage (but now better)
-recession
-too old to learn new things at this age

XP Pro - bought student OEM ~$40
Vista Home Premium - bought OEM ~$110
Win7 Ultimate - Downloaded and installed legally. ~$0 (But really thinking of buying when it comes out.)

MSDNAA... so I guess downloaded and activated legally.

College ftw 🙂

same here, it seems that their fair use policy allows you to use it after college as well 😀
Really? I was under the impression that you could only use MSDN AA software while you're a student, but it's not like they'd know anyways. 😛

nope, policy allows to use any software that you have installed as student as long as you want.

Always OEM because it is the best value for the home builder who doesn't change hardware enough to justify paying over twice as much for Retail. I also like to keep up with the latest versions of Windows so retail would just be a waste of money for me.

Sort of OEM, student version, for my copy of Vista Business. My coy of Vista Home Premium was straight OEM from Newegg.

I have multiple copies of various flavors of Windows (XP Pro 32 and 64, Vista Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, Server 2003 and 2008) that are either academic copies that were virtually free through my school, or completely free through different promotions (DreamSpark, power together, Live Search Club, etc.). All of my operating systems are legal copies, but I haven't paid for one since Windows 98SE.

the one copy of XP Pro at home was free from MS conference (retail so it's on it's 4th hardware revamp)
I had Vista Ultimate retail upgrade on my gaming box but now that runs win7

Windows Vista Ultimate on my main box which I received via trade in FS/FT for my X1900XT 512MB. Not sure how to vote.
