If you know how to do it, it's probably better to build it yourself unless you're that dependent upon a warrantee.

Do ya like the 8500?? My friends mom works for ATI and i might be able to pick one up on the cheap....

I (actually my parents) bought their system from Dell.

PIII 933 MHz
256 MB SDRAM
nVidia TNT 32 MB video card
USB CD burner (for portability)
40x CD-ROM
100 MB IDE Zip Drive
17" M781 monitor
Intel 10/100 NIC

I've decided to get a Dell for college next year...and I'm pretty excited!

Hopefully, it'll be a nice P4 system (not sure what the top-of-the-line processor will be then...) but I'd like that sweet 17" Dell DVI flat panel too.

56k modem

I have never owned a pre-built computer and never will. I currently have two of my rigs listed in my sig below, but I have several other ones that are not listed.

<< how much is the price different between home built and pre built? >>

These days not much....Unless you consider what you are getting for those dollars.

Home built not only allows you to customize to your own needs, but usually results in higher quality components.

The down side is that once you figure out how to build a computer, it becomes addictive and you wind up wanting to upgrade every 3-6 months
