POLL-Help me decide on new PSU

Saw your otrher post..replying to this one. I plug thsi PSU all the time. It is high quality, has gotten great reviews, and is a steal for the price. I have oen and love it.

500w

I just recently got the thermaltake for my rig. Only been running a week or so, bust so far so good. The included Fan controller is a nice little bonus. Also it has a SATA plug included so you don't have to use the adapters that ship with the MB normally, which is also a nice touch

Whats wrong with an Antec True power 480 ?

it only has a 4 star rating on newegg, and is almost $30 more than any of the ones i have listed.

And what are the negative comments ? I now have 10 Antec PSU's in my house running from 330 to 550 watt. I love them and they are quiet. I will look myself, and update my post.
A couple of people had them blow up. Considering how many people give reviews (I am bad at that) It doesn;t bother me. You will get a much higher bad % that post than good. Now I will check the thermaltake.

Edit: I looked at the Thermaltake reviews, and while it is not as efficient, rails aren;t as stable, it seems to get fine reviews. I till stick with my recommendation, but the thermaltake does look promising.

i don't feel like arguing, nor is it really merited, but i'll leave it at the fact that it is $30 more, and i don't want to pay that much.

Hey, I agreed that it was a good choice based on what you saw ! I just think the more stable rails are worht the extra $30 IMO Its your choice, and I said it wasn;t a bad one, just not what I would do.

if i were you, i would go with a fortron 530 (or lower if you want to spend less). they are damn good psus, at or above antec, and quite inexpensive for their quality. the 530 costs ~$80 @newegg iirc.

Four Tornados, that's a heck of a lot of 12V drain. I take it you lost your sense of hearing already? 😀

you're not kidding...i fired this thing up for the first time with 4 tornados and NO fan controller, thought WWIII had started. they're all on Vantec Nexus now, but it is still VERY loud. i'll be moving to a Super Lanboy pretty soon, and that issue will be solved.

give the MGE one a try.. decent reviews and good price. why not!?

I was one of the first to try the Ultra X-connect, and I love it.. works great 🙂

Alright, i CAN NOT STAND IT when people make a statement like "not so great" with absolutly NO JUSTIFICATION whatsoever. go look at the 60+ reviews and then tell me the Thermaltake Silent Purepower 480 Xaser is "not so great."

if your going to trash something, PLEASE justify it.

what makes the quality of the MGE questionable? At one point, no one had heard of Antec either.

woah buddy....calm it down.

You came hear asking for help and people are giving you free advice. Why are you defending the "reviews" on Newegg. I use the term "review" lightly as ANYONE can say

"OMG this PSU is the 1337est!!!!"

You know? I understand the benefit of end user reviews but you have to understand what they are. Go out and do a little research. Google your top choices read some site reviews. Then go back and read the user reviews. Look for similarities in the reviews. Weigh the pro's and cons. Pick the one that meets your needs and budget. Then come back and let us know what you did and how it's working out for you.

Good luck. Remember that a PSU is the one place you DO NOT want to skimp on. It is the life blood of your system.

All I'm saying is that there is better stuff out there.... Look at the specs from ThermalTake's site...

First the most important rail on a modern PSU the 12V; the Thermaltake has 18A amps... a bit low for a 480 PSU. My 380 watt Tagan has 22, the 480watt Tagan has 28, Seasonic's 400watt has 22A, Antec's 480watt 22A. Also there is their dBA specs, they claim 1400-3000RPM and 17-30dBA... that sounds a bit off to me. For comparison Tagan claims 21dBA at 600PPM.

As far as MGE they?re new (as far as I know) so you can't really say with any conclusion but take a look at the internal shoot of the MGE and compare to say this Zalman.

I vote Seasonic Super Tornado 400w or one of the Forton's with Active PFC. Out of the ones you listed, Enermax by far.
