[Poll] Help me choose an upgrade...

My options-
New speakers (to replace my Z-640s)
New mouse (move the MX500 to my gaming system, MX300 goes with the laptop)

For speakers I was looking at the Logitech Z-680s (to be paired with my existing Audigy2 ZS Platinum, $220 shipped at Amazon) or possibly a Klipsch\Creative alternative, and for the mouse, an MX1000. Thoughts, suggestions?

Thought in my head you were going for a Platinum (Audigy 2 ZS Platinum being next to the $220 within the parenthesis).

NEways I've never heard the Klipsch or Creatives but for the $ @ which the 680's are selling for, I'd go with them unless you can audition & compare them to the Klipsch or Creatives. Keep in mind that if you do audition them, the Logitech's sub may sound "boomy" and it's due to it's high crossover frequency. While out of the box the 680's sub may sound boomy, your Audigy 2 ZS can probably adapt/compensate for it's "boomyness" so that shouldn't be a problem.

As for the MX1000, never tried or laid eyes on 'em but according to what I've been hearing/reading, it's the mouse to get.

"computer" speakers are not 'real speakers'(to me) and not worth it, id rather have kick ass head phones.

I'm gonna say go for the mouse, you've got decent speaker already and not really that large of an upgrade to Z680's from Z640's I'd suggest looking into something a bit more expensive if you really want a large improvment in sound quality and the MX1000 is just a kick ass mouse, If my KVM didn't have issues w/ wireless mice I'd prob. own one now

Do you have a specific suggestion?

My reasoning for leaning towards the Z-680s is that I've been eyeing them from afar since they came out and wer $300+, and I can finally afford them now. The mouse is nice, but I'd have a hard time justifying more than $60 for a mouse, especially considering that people have been getting the MX Duo (MX700+keyboard) for ~$60. Well, I bought the Z-680s, but there's time to cancel the order.

680s:

- many owners complain of sats or even their amp dying after just a few months
- most owners complain of very noticeable hiss, an earmark of low quality components
- boomy bass (cheap sub)
- pretty sure the sats don't have tweeters, which really kills accurate sound reproduction. You might think it's not important, but sound quality really does play a big part in the enjoyment of music. For their flagship speakers, nearly as expensive as other flagship computer speakers, not to have them is ridiculous.

I agree that Logitech makes some killer input devices... but I'm not so sure about their speakers; far too many 680 owners are unhappy with their purchase. I'd go with the Klipsch ProMedia Ultras or Creative Gigaworks. I own the 7.1 Gigaworks system and am very happy with it.

Yes, but my MX500 would be going to the second gaming rig, sorry for not making that clear.

Gurck, we'll see when they come. They'll definately be a step up from my Z-640s. If I hate them enough I can always sell them for a small loss.

Yeah, but a mouse is one of the few things that can make the PC more comfortable to use. I'll end up buying one anyways, it's a matter of time.

Mouse. I agree with some of the others that if you want hi
fi sound, go with a real surround setup and get a high quality
receiver like a Denon and good speakers.

Go with the Mouse. Your current speakers are already good
enough to enjoy surround gaming, unless of course this is a
HTPC, if so, then go with the above.
