Poll HDTV (Please see message details)

If you were in the market for an HDTV and wanted to spend anywhere between $1200.00 and $2500.00 for a 50 inch or greater big screen, and you have the ability to manage the lighting in the room, what would you buy? All other issues aside and you are really looking for a nice picture first and of course a quality product.

Thanks for your participation in advance; you will participate won't you?

Pretty please!!! Of course if you know nothing about this subject please refrain from taking this poll. The OP thanks you also.

OP: if you click on edit, to edit this post, in the top right corner of your poll, you'll see "edit poll" - from there, you can change the questions, close the poll, etc. I closed it for you, pending your ability to edit it & change it the way you'd like. Else, we can just lock this thread & you can start with a fresh poll in a fresh thread. -Admin DrPizza

I deleted the poll for you as we now don't think you have the ability to edit it. Sorry about that.

What's your viewing distance? Are you limiting yourself to flat-panel TVs, or would your consider a rear-projection tv or projector?

Edit: And this poll thread needs a poll.

Viewing distance doesn't matter either. Yes, thanks,... flat panels please.

How do I poll this poll?

Okay I am working on the poll but I am in uncharted territory so please bear with my noobness.

Actually this matters greatly. If viewing distance is 5 feet, then I would recommend a 50" 1080p plasma. If viewing distance is 8 feet or more, then I would recommend a front project with an 80" or greater screen (depending on the viewing distance.

So, 5-7 = 50"-65" 1080p plasma. >7' = front projector with screen size based on viewing distance.

For your poll, make a question like, "Which technology would you choose?" Then make your answers as follows:

  1. Plasma TV
  2. LCD TV
  3. Rear-Projection TV
  4. Projector
Then, people can elaborate in their posts like I have.

So my poll came off badly; so how do I delete or edit it. Moderator...---... SOS Help!!!!

HIO red faced runs for cover and hides under desk. His newbness has been exposed. Ouch!

My viewing distance can be whatever I want in my situation currently but I truly understand your point.

vBulletin polls are crazy. I don't even know if I can edit them. D:

Oh, and I'd get a projector too.

I recently got a Panasonic AE4000U. An Epson 8500UB would also be an excellent choice. Add in a screen for a couple hundred dollars, and you have yourself an amazing picture.

Thanks Moderator for chiming in. I guess I will look like a stupid newby for all eternity because I never put a time limit on my first Poll ever. <g>

Thanks for a heads up on your recent projector purchase as I have never even considered one but will look into those as well.

Thank you, thank you, and thank all of you who made my Poll go bye bye. It didn't work now did it. I warned everyone in advance that I was stepping into unchartered territory <VBG>

Projector if you can, otherwise perhaps a nice DLP.

Thanks for chiming in. I think I have opened a pandora's box in this arena. I am the type who has to know everything about what I am going to buy before I put any green into it.

does your 2500 budget include a sound system? or do you already have one, and $2500 is all for the projector. if so, what sound system do you have?

vshah,

Being a recording studio owner I have a sound system alright and tons of gear. My budget was just for an HDTV, projector, or what have you.

I noticed your computer components and I have a very similar system arriving first of next week from newegg.

I was going with the Asus P6T until the last moment but went with the Asus P6X

MS WIN 7 HOME PREMIUM
DVD BURNER PLEXTOR
CASE FAN NEXUS
CPU COOL NOCTUA NH-U9B SE2
CASE FAN NOCTUA NF-S12B
HD 750|WD 7K 32M SATA2 WD7501AALS 2

Do you know if there are any home theater type stores around you where you could demo different technologies? (I mean a step above Best Buy's wall of TVs type setup)

Yes, there are some high-end boutique stores that I can go to.
