Poll: Have you ever consciously broken the law ?

Just a quick question here, but isn't possession of unpaid MP3's a civil issue? Passing a CD of them off as legit is fraud, and a large group might get some racketeering charges, but under current law, I've been under the impression that copyright infringment is a civil offense?

On your list, I have not done these,
Not paying sales tax on online purchases when filing taxes, don't file my own taxes yet.
Underage drinking / Drinking and driving, just not into drinking
Petty Theft, Why?
Everything else on that list is a different story.

Just laws that I have broken:

Speeding
Jaywalking
Illegal Fireworks (I'm the safest person I know, first aid kit and pleny o water when I'm in charge)

Unjust laws that I have broken:

Underage drinking
Marijuana/Acid/Opium/Shrooms

Absolutely.

-Theft
-Breaking & Entering
-Grand theft auto
-Assault and battery
-Grievous bodily harm
-Varied drug use
-Immigration fraud
-Production of drugs
-Speeding
-Driving without insurance
-Credit fraud (I must have signed up with Columbia House in 20 different names) 🙂
-Unlawful possesion of an unregistered firearm
-Statutory rape (we all know how much BS that is)

Anyway almost all of the above was comitted when I was 18 or under.
My father was a cop and I was the classic rebel against what he stood for.

Speeding: Yep
Downloading illegal MP3's or warez: Yep
Jaywalking: Yep
Not paying sales tax on online purchases when filing taxes: Nope
Underage drinking / Drinking and driving: Nope
Petty Theft: Nope
Plagarism: Nope
Illegal fireworks: Nope

etc..: Yep
LOL!

The real question is "Have you ever unconciously broken the law?"

Seriously, there are so many laws on the books you probably have. 😉

Speeding Yes
Downloading illegal MP3's or warez Yes
Jaywalking Yes
Not paying sales tax on online purchases when filing taxes Yes - Fvck taxes, I pay too much to the damn gov already.
Underage drinking Yes - Not a lot, just a fruit flavored beer or wine cooler once on the weekend, maybe once a month or so.
Petty Theft No
Plagarism No
Illegal fireworks Yes - Spent one summer building pipe bombs and blowing them up. Was quite fun 🙂.

etc.. Yes

I almost got into credit card fraud when I was ~ 15/16. I had two friends that grabbed CC numbers from B&N book store receipts that people threw in the trash on the way out. They started using them to buy stuff online and having it shipped to new houses under construction in the area. I think they each accumulated a couple grand in charges before their parents found out (which was, luckily enough, before the police found out). One's parents made him return everything and put some harsh penalties on him. The other continued to do it for a while longer anyhow but eventually stopped. It was kinda funny seeing the state cops roll up as we were sitting in calc class, they started taking a look at him towards the end, but I think he stopped early enough that they couldn't make it stick on him. I was smart though and decided to stay out of it in the first place 🙂.

From the airport: "Has anyone put something in your baggage without your knowledge?" 😉

For the most part, I considered myself a law-abiding citizen of the state of Indiana. I don't drink and drive (heck, I don't drive at all yet), don't do drugs, haven't stolen anything (well, I do have a computer with an internet connection, but... 😉).

Needless to say, I'm not totally innocent:
Baths may not be taken between the months of October and March.
Oh...sh1t. Sorry, I just couldn't stand the smell, so I had to do it anyway. 😱
Anyone 14 or older who profanely curses, damns or swears by the name of God, Jesus Christ or the Holy Ghost, shall be fined one to three dollars for each offense, with a maximum fine of ten dollars per day.
Ooops! :Q

Errr... keep thinking that.

I was 18, my Jehovahs Witness girlfriend was 16 (we started dating a year earlier) and
her religious nutcake freak of a mother decided she didn't like my 'worldy influence' on her daughter and filed a complaint and had me arrested.

The charges were dropped within about 72 hours (cops told me they don't know wtf the warrant was even filed) but I was told by the A.D.A.
that I shouldn't be around my girlfriend anymore or the charges might not be dropped next time.
Probably en empty threat. I don't see how 18yo male dating a 16yo female can be criminal no matter how fscked up in the head the mother is. 🙂

But, I left the country for school soon after that anyway.

So, yeah, the world is black and white eh? I am sorry I ruined your public avenger moment!
You can still kick my ass but you won't be able to do it in a cell cause I am as free as a bird my man. 😀

Real model citizen here, folks!

Live hard, die young.
I had a $30,000 automobile at the age of 17 and hadn't worked a day in my life.
I had my little illicit fun.

But, alas, fear of prison finally caused to straighten up and join the world of struggling rats
who eek out thier existance in a 9-to-5 hell and spend 2 days on the weekend desperately trying to convince yourself your not emotionally dead.

I am just another cog in the consumer machine now. Yay for me.

Oh, and not all of us here are starch collared white bread boys from the 'burbs.
Some of us have that convientant issue of 'socio-economic disadvantage' and 'broken family' and 'living in the hood' to blame our trespasses on!
It comes in real handy.

Ah, good old Black Rage. It's a legit defense - all you have to do is say you're black and you're pissed off.

(That's from a Carlos Mencia skit, if I remember correctly.)

While my list looks impressive I am a mere lightweight.
Most of the things on that list I did as a screwed up in the head teenage thug.
The assault and bodily harm charges were just a bunch of us idiot thugs who thought we were gangsters fighting each other.
Other charges I recieved as a juvenile often came from being in the wrong car at the wrong time.
Anyway, all of that stuff has been explunged from my record. Having a cop for a father comes in handy when you need it to.
It just sucked when he practiced his nightstick techniques on my back when I didn't do the housework. 🙂

As an adult the only real crimes I have comitted are immigration fraud (lied about the immigration status of a girlfriend)... I am simply coffessing to a little white lie here... I was never even 'caught' 🙂
I am a cannabis smoker so I break that that 'law' on a regular basis. I routinely speed and I have a huge MP3 collection. Thats about it.
WAIT!... I believe I break the car stereo loudness (noise polution) laws on a regular basis also. But I am quick with the remote when I spot the coppers. hehe.

BTW, plenty of my 'friends' back home didn't end thier criminal career at 18 and straighten up. In knew a few folk who I hear are now in Angola Prison in Lousiana. Rough ROUGH place.

But, yeah, I would be a white collar criminal. Why not? Half the House of Representatives are and they seem to be doing just fine!
Oh wait I think you need to be white and old for that con to work. Damn.

I've broken the law on minor things, stupid things that can be chalked up to youth, and just being dumb, repeatedly.
