POLL: Have You Ever Been Ripped Off on EBAY?

You are always hearing a lot of Ebay horror stories, but in my 100 or so auctions so far I have only had one problem and it was only over a $10 item.....guy had borderline feedback, but I figured it was only $10 and worth a shot.

So what is your experience?

EDIT: Rather than add $$ to poll, I'll let you decide what is a little or lot of cash for you......

I've had no problems with Ebay, but then again I've used it probably a grand total of five times.

Does half.com count? I had some dip send me the wrong item. It took about 6 weeks, but it wasn't hard to get a refund.

When I sold two Rosebowl Tickets (Purdue v. Washington) on eBay, the winning bidder refused to pay in advance and wanted to set up an escrow payment. However, we did not have time to do so since the auction ended 7 days before the game. I thought I was out $500, but instead we met up at a mall in LA and he paid cash.🙂

I got a dead laptop hard drive and the guy ended up no answering emails at all. I found his phone number and called him. Turns out he was a government official in state of Illinois and he threatened to put a restraining order on me from calling him. LMAO, shady ebayer and shady gov't official.

Had no problems, my advice is NEVER to do a deal with a guy youre unsure about, any dodgy feedback or no feedback at all for that matter is always a sure sign of impending trouble

I had a problem, but it was my own fault of all things. Bought a lava lamp from a ebay company (VERY good rating) they claimed they never got the payment. Well, dumb ole me lost my MO receipt....So, I was out 100 bucks on that one and learned quite the lesson. KEEP RECEIPTS!

used it 8-10 times

once I didn't receive the item. Emails back and forth = the guy says he sent it but couldn't provide proof. I even tried to settle for a 50% refund. No dice. Left neg feedback :frown: Out only $30, and even if it was $3, it was the principle of the thing that pisses me off!

I won't deal with individuals and one-time items anymore. Only the storefronts or guys w/ 400+ pos feedback and history of selling the item.

Got ripped off once buying a laptop. The guy had 50+ feedback and was part of a huge scam. The power of the internet and a few organized, determined people produced this: http://www.laptopscam.com

Thanks to the pressure from the people who started the crusade, I got all my money back 😀

Worst that ever happened to me was a I bid on an item(Ericsson T68m back in the day when they were $500), and the seller never got back to me. So I just bought it from someone else.
