I used an eMac 700mhz w/ combo drive a few weeks ago. It was running Jaguar -- was pretty good.

Too bad the hardware costs so much.

Damn the PowerBook is sweet....

Just don't cop an attitude about it. A computer is a computer is a computer. They all just do what you tell them to, prefering one type over another doesn't make one some sort of computing elite.

Actually, most of the Mac people I know (myself included) would *love* to hear that IBM manufacturers m ost of the PPC chips for apple. Unfortunately, as of this moment (AFAIK) all they are manufacturing are the Saharas. The 64bit desktop PPC chip hasnt been announced as being for Apple, I dont think.

Voted yes, since Im using my iBook right now, Mac OS X 10.1.5.

Macs are good for me to poop on. The switch commercials are a f*cking joke. Funny how they claim Macs don't crash now that they're running *nix, conveniently ignoring the 99% of their gh3y history of computers which crash every other second.

"I used to use PCs (winME, lol) but it kept crashing so I changed to Apple (*nix)! I am t3h computar g0d!"

I hate Apple.

I was using a 864(?) G4 w/ a 22" studio display last weekend to make a dvd. Belongs to a friend of mine. When we were using it, we had OS9 up to edit the dvd but it wouldn't burn in 9. When he went to finish it up he used X and it worked fine. They are really nice looking machines, I grant them that. I was told that computer cost about $6000 (when it was bought as top of the line). That's more then my car is worth.

Mac switch commercials are awesome. They never cease to make me laugh. Besides, XP's commercial with people flying to the stylic tunes of Madonna was good?

Microsoft claims that their new operates based on NT technology never crash, ignoring 99% of their history.

Personally, I hate MS for releasing ME more than I do Apple. At least Apple hasn't caved into the entertainment industry like MS has, and probably won't be introducing anything like Palladium.

Let me tell you a little tale.

One of my housemates has/had a new iBook.

I tried it. Pretty nice. X.1 - with Jaguar in the mail.

Asked him how much it cost.

Only $1600, he says. Wow, what a bargain.

I promptly walk him over to my Athlon XP, no-bull-taking gF4 flossin' monster. He tries it - XP Pro.

Holy crap, he says. How much did this set you back?

About $800, says I.

He's now preparing to put the iBook back into the Apple packaging and returning it, then using half the money for me to build him a monster gaming rig.

Im a geek. I play games (go fish being one of my favorites, Alchemy being the #1 right now). I did not pay an outrageous price for my iBook, it was a better deal than the comparable x86 based notebooks at the time and came with reasonable features. I have limitless software choices, most of them open source, some of them free. I have no drapes. I am an Apple user.

Sorry, but the generalizations stopped with the release of OS X. Welcome to the next generation of Mac users. Not only do we have the elite of the entertainment industry, but we are gathering the elite of the software industry. Surprise, its a Mac world. Have a nice day.

So you compared the price of a notebook to the price of your desktop. I guess I'd better go tell my boss that his $1700 laptop (vaio) wasn't worth it, because I only paid $800 for my PC w/ monitor.

BTW, I run Debian, so I didn't pay for an operating system. Does the price of your system include an OS, the laptop's price does...

Dur, you are comparing a homebuilt desktop to a preassembled laptop. Gee, how fair.
