I don't remember how to write a check it's been so long. Are you still expected to spell out the dollar amount and put the cents in a xx/100 format?

yes, this is how i do it. and i scribble account #s on the notes section. for car payments i put account # on top by date.

I use one every now and again for the odd thing, otherwise my checkbook reads Daycare, Daycare, Daycare, repeat.

1) i'm broke

If you didn't buy 2130 checks, up to 2130 stamps, and up to 2130 envelopes then you might not be broke (or least you'd have a brand new computer and big screen TV). But studies do show that broke people make the worst possible financial transactions. Repeatedly. So, you do have company.

2) i don't trust companies taking money out of my account

Um, that is exactly what a check does. Except with the check, it goes through many people's prying eyes and hands (which may include store clerk, store manager, uncountable postal workers, any neighborhood thieves that open your mailbox, bank workers, etc) instead of guaranteed secure computer transactions where the bank pays you back for any problems.

Pay just about everything electronically these days.
