<< It's quite simple. Sure, there might not be a god, but I'd rather believe in one than go to hell when the time comes. >>

So you believe out of fear? How sad.

Since I don´t have the (blind) faith it takes to believe in him, I would need proof to do so, but since there is none proof whatsoever (that I know of, and I´m pretty sure that if their would be one, my psychology teacher would have found it in order to convince me and most of her class...) I don´t.

No, I dont belive in god. Why, because there is not a single tiny hint of proof.

Ok, Jesus gave up his life for us, one dead, how many other people have giving up their lives for some couse?, like millions, what makes him anymore special than all the rest?

And like in the bible I think, the world was created 5000 years ago, that is a biiiiig load of bullshít to me.

Czar.. the difference is (if you choose to accept the Biblical account, as I do) Jesus rose from the dead.

zonker, ok then, how do you know if jesus rose from the dead. It happened 2000 years ago, we cant be certain about anything that happened that far back.

czar, as I said... you have to accept the Bible and make that leap of faith.

I've had so many revelations of God in my life, including answered prayers, inexplicible events, and yes miraculous events that I can only relate to my relationship to and understanding of Jesus.

I believe in God.

I believe for many reasons.

I believe because of the testimony of Jesus Christ

I believe because of the difference He has made in my life.

I believe because I have experienced blatantly paranormal phenomenon that is most sufficiently explained by admitting a spiritual dimension to life and a real good and a real perversion of good.

I believe because the concept of an eternal Word seems to best account for the innate ability of language and abstract reasoning present in humans alone amongst all physical creatures that we know of.

I believe because, in my opinion, it is more rational to presuppose a non-material Mind as the First Cause than it is to presuppose that no such mind exists. I believe that very few people are true agnostics. Almost everyone comes to this question biased one way or the other: we tend to presuppose "for" a god, or presuppose "against" a god.

I believe because the phenomenon of fulfilled biblical prophecy strongly suggests a genuine miraculous presence guiding the writers of the Bible.

I believe because the Bible is amazingly blunt about the shortcomings and character faults of even its most beloved "heroes." This lends credence to the accounts as being more than just propaganda myths. Of course, these character faults also turn off many readers. If so-called godly people are so flawed, some surmise that there must not be much to this "god-stuff."

I believe because of the injustice of this world. If there is no True Justice, why does that fact bother me? In other words, if I am simply the product of a brutal, survival of the fittest, might makes right universe, then why am I appalled by such a system. Can a stream rise higher than its source? It can, but only if assisted by an Outside Power. If I am shocked by the abuses of this world yet I am a product of this world, than I assume that an Outside Power is calling me to rise higher than this world.

If the universe is destined to be an empty Void, why does that fact shock me? Why do I resonate more with a Logos/Eternal Meaning than an Outer Darkness/Eternal Void? If this is pure delusion on my part, than I conclude that delusion is superior to reality. I would rather "go down with the ship" of a deluded belief in the Word Become Flesh (Jesus Christ) than learn to make myself at home in the meaningless eternity of idiotic matter. I choose to believe that there is a way which is The Way, a truth which is The Truth, and a life which is The Life. . .

. . . . Of course, this means I have to choose to do the right thing no matter how much it irks me. Oh well, I guess it is easier just to give in an live in self-indulgence. :)

Lots of people saw Jesus perform miracles and rise from the dead. These same people (100's of them, and through today maybe 100's of thousands) later had their heads put down on a block of wood and were told something to the effect of "if you keep preaching about this Jesus character, you are going to die right here and now. Stop and you can live." Why would they give their life, the most precious thing that a person has, for something that they KNEW was a lie! They were witnesses to a truth, and believed it was important enough that there was no question whether their life was worth giving up for it. I consider this a powerful evidence of God.

Hang around a group of Christians sometime, I think that the life of a Christian is also a very strong hint that something has changed them from what they used to be into something radically different.

Why should anyone accept a "book" as the truth, there are thousands of books written every year, all of them could be called "the bible" after 1500 years. To me its not right to think that one book is any more important than the next one, these are just words on paper(or skin), they form a meaning that can be understood in million ways, what does anyone know if the bible is just a book that parents read for their children. It could be just a one big fairytale. One day Peter Pan might be what some people call Jesus now.

<< One day Peter Pan might be what some people call Jesus now. >>

your arguement has some points but this just destroyed them all. WTF? Is Peter Pan a bunch of stories about a loving man who performed miracles, loved everyone, healed the sick, fed the hungry, etc. ?

I'll be the last one to take the bible word for word or "obey" anything in it, but even if it is fictional stories, they are stories that people should live by as they teach us lessons.

My experience is that everyone percieves God differently. So I would say if you have a spiritual God.... you're qualified to respond.
