Poll: G35 or 300C

I like both. I haven't driven a 300 but even though I have read it handles very well for its size, I seriously doubt it can match the G35 which is one of the best-handling sedans I've ever driven. The 300C would probably be faster in a straight line, though, and it's roomier (although the G35 is fairly roomy for its size).

I like the exterior styling of both. The 300 is very distinctive but you have to remember this is an American car so we will likely be seeing hundreds of thousands of 300s and Magnums on the road soon.

Deciding factors for me if I were buying new: the Infiniti would have the edge in dealer service, resale (almost certainly), and expected reliability (since the 300 rides on an all-new platform), so the G35 would be my choice.

I saw one of those new Chryslers at the Long Beach Grand Prix earlier this month (at the Dub exhibit in the convention center) and half the body panels didn't line up correctly on it, gaps larger at one end than the other, the hood was too low on one side. Horrible fit and finish. That and it's a Chrysler. :roll:

I've driven the G35 coupe and it one sweet ride.

Edit - If you like big heavy cars I guess the Chrysler might be the car for you though.

I won't go that far yet, but the 300c is the best looking sedan on the market (yes better than the maxima), and the crossfire is the best looking "sports car". I put that in double quotes, because a sports car needs more than 215 horsepower, but the car does look hot.

Are you sure that was a production model? They had a 300C at the local auto show a while back and the hood didn't come close to lining up correctly, but it was a preproduction model that had been on the auto show circuit for a while.

strange, i remember reading an article that since it's merdedes built, it's got import grade quality through and through. interior and all.

can really pick out the domestic haters on this board

i have faith in the 300's that they will be good cars, no doubt!

This was only a couple weeks ago. I'm sure it must have been a production vehicle though. Where else would it come from? Dub sure didn't build it.

Well, if by imports you mean French cars or Italian cars or British cars then I would agree with you. If you mean Japanese cars, well, little things like FACTS would definitely prove you wrong on that count.

I'm not anti-domestic but I do know that Japanese car manufacturers make the most reliable cars on the planet. It is a proven fact.

Well the new max looks ok... nothing great though. I kind of hate the current altimas now. I loved them at first, but now they're just cheap and ugly.

Well the new max looks ok... nothing great though. I kind of hate the current altimas now. I loved them at first, but now they're just cheap and ugly.

Guy at work has one of the new Maximas. He is having brake vibration problems with it. He already has 16k miles on it and has had it in 3 times for brake vibrations. I'm sure Nissan will get the kinks out with the new Maxima (made in the USA BTW) but I don't think I'd buy one at the moment. I have a 2003 Nissan Maxima that was made in Japan though and it is flawless. We have 16k miles on our Max and it has been in the shop once for a leaking boot on the front axle (probably from my mashing the gas pedal so often though).

yeah, I know Hondas are reliable, but I've never seen a Civic driving down the road with 300,000 miles like both of father's old Ford Rangers. Plus, Japanese cars always feel cheap to me (probably due to the fact that most of the ones I've been in have been at the lower end of the product chain.) I trust domestics more, but if people ask me for a recommendation for a nice car, I'll usually include Honda. BTW, I took back the "anti-import" part

i'd get the g35... while the 300c may be "no slouch in the corners" it is relative to a G35 or most all of the sport coupes/sedans in that price range. It also doesn't look stupid.

I've raced both in my m3 and the 300c was a little faster than the g35 in a straight line.

personally I would go neither and get some flavor BMW...but the used S4 suggestion is also decent as it is far cheaper than the Infinity...and as far as electrical gremlins I would gladly take those over an ass ugly body style that is typical with japanese import crap

Hmm, the Bangled BMWs are ugly too. Although the 5er series is starting to get good looking But the 6, 7 and Z4... wah...
Anyway, the BMW M3 CSL would be cool, but I think that one is by far over the price limit.

But I must agree that the G35 is pretty ugly, compared to the other Skylines (esp. R32 GT-R and R34 GT-R, both are absolutely agressiv and look pretty cool with the Ferrari and Corvette like back... just better done). The G35 looks a bit like a BMW at the back... The front reminds me a bit of the Citroen Xsara, with its "baby" looks. Even at that car I think its rather misplaced, its... too big. On a small car, like Micra, yes, ok. That one can look cute. But in the class of a G35 it should be stylish or agressive... not CUTE! Its not damn ugly, its just... maybe good. Not very good.
I'd say from the looks the 300C would win, not by much tho.

Actually, between the two cars I'd choose the G35 hands down, but if you include such inticing vote options such as you did, I can't help but choose accordingly.

Sorry, but you need to get your facts straight. The B5 chassis S4 (2000-2002) did not have faulty coilpacks or many electrical gremlins. The news you're probably hearing is from the 2002 A4...the new B6 chassis design. I've had my S4 for over 2 years and not one single problem with it and I know of others who share my sentiments as well. Engine fires or misfires? That's probably due to chipping and not running a high enough octane fuel. Stock for stock, it's a reliable car. Now, chipped, you're talking about a completely different vehicle, 310hp/375tq in a measily 4 door sedan (ultra stealth). I've been chipped for about a year...still no problems whatsoever, and i'm in Cali so I've got the crappy 91oct. Whatever you're hearing, it's probably just a small percentage of bad news out there.

Also, from other studies that I've read, the S4 has one of the highest buyback rates in the industry (lemon-lawed) - it's among the top 10 cars that are most bought back by manufacturers due to unresolvable defects. Yea, sounds like a GREAT car
