Fresh. Once they cool they're not nearly as good. Otherwise, I don't care either way.

Somewhat in between - lightly crispy on the ends of the fry, with a soft midsection, lightly dusted with salt, and moist on the inside, not at all dry.

God I want some now.

Soft fries are good if they're mostly potato - i.e. thick-cut fries.

fast food fries NEED to be crispy. no other way to do it.

I normally prefer crispy fries doused in ketchup, but recently when I was in Cuba I had some "soft" fries.

They were fresh and freaking amazing. Now I am a convert for soft fries.

If soft means soggy, then no.
If crispy means brown and hard like bacon, then definitely no!

Try cooking them in synthetic oil!
