POLL: For you college people: Do you have classes 5 days a week? How much do you sleep?

I've read that some have taken classes only 3-4 days a week, and some take classes 5 days a week. What is/was your experience with this? Im just curious. Since im going into biomedical engineering, it would be especially helpful to hear what engineering students have to say about this.

Secondly, it seems that since I would only have 4 hours of class (max) per day, and I get to choose the time that I want to take my class, I would be able to get more sleep. But I always hear people complaining about being tired in college. If my first class starts at 9:00AM, I could theoretically go to bed at 11:30 PMish and wake up at 8:30AMish, thus getting plenty of sleep. So what's up with that? Thanks guys! :gift::beer::D:beer::D:beer::D:beer::D:beer::D:beer::D:beer::D:beer::D:beer::D:beer::D:beer::D:beer::D

I have classes 5 days a week. Last semester was brutal, but this semester I'm hoping for a bit more success. The key is getting to bed early, if only those bastards next door would be quiet!

I always had 3-4. After first year I realized that instead of staying up late and going to class tired I could go to bed earlier, and sleep through my early classes, so I was anything but sleep deprived.

I had one class in 3rd or 4th year that I went to the first couple of times. Then I showed up about two weeks later and the prof, in front of a class of 40 people, asked me if I was in the right class. It was embarassing (but admittedly funny). I didn't go to class again. I did better on the exams and class as a whole than the girl who did go to class who provided me with my notes.

I still to this day (been out of university for 4.5 years) have dreams sometimes about waking up and realizing I'm totally screwed for a class - like I've not been to enough, or missed an exam (I once slept through one because I didn't realize it was an exam, and just skipped it - I told the prof I was sick. He let me re-sit and didn't penalize me that hard).

Yea, if I could get to bed earlier than 3AM sleep would be no problem (I have classes 4 days a week). Everyone on my floor is freaking loud all the time.

EDIT: I'm an EE major, for now.

Engineering major, classes 5 days a week. Overall, pretty well rested until the week before and the week of final exams.

Sometimes I managed to schedule classes only 2 days a week, with 18 credit hours.

I seriously averaged less than 3 hours a day throughout college, averaging less than 30 minutes a day my Freshman year, not counting time spent in class. Emphasis day, not night :)

That said I didn't actually show up for class that often. At least classes related to the major (comp. eng). English classes & stuff I had to show up & study to get good grades.

If you have a 9:00am class I would recommend maybe sleeping after or during class, not before.

I'm a full time pre-med student and I have classes every day of the week. On top of that I have a full time job and I manage somehow to get in plenty of sleep and maintain a normal social life. I don't get why so many people bitc% about college and sleep, it's called time management.

I have 4 classes on Tuesday, and 5 on Thursday.

I usually get around 6 hours of sleep. I'll probably get more this semester though. :)

Depends on when classes start.. If you think you're going to go to bed at 11, you are in for a big surprise!

I have classes 5 days a week and two majors (Criminal Justice & Political Science), but I manage to get a decent amount of sleep (around 7-8 hours a night, but then I catch up with 10 or so a night on weekends).

Last semester, I was tired all the time. Usually went to sleep around 2-2:30, and woke up every day for my 9:30 class by 8:30. By the middle of the semester though, I realized, as Skoorb did, that I could sleep through my early classes and not be penalized. So, it got better. This semester, I only have one day that starts before noon, so I should be fine.

It depends on where you go, which courses you take, etc. I knew people that stacked courses on Tuesdays/Thursdays and were in class for ~6 hours, but they had all the other days off. I knew people that only took courses in the afternoon, some ended all their couses by noon, etc. It just depends on where you go, which courses are offered, etc. You'll probably be filling out a planning sheet with which courses you're going to take when to plan out how you're going to fulfill all the requirements. This is in engineering, too.

My undergrad had courses on either MWF or Tues/Thursday. The MWF courses were 50 mins. long and the TR couses were 75 minutes long. Since you're going into engineering, you'll likely also have additional lab times.

5/week, not well rested. Not really because of the workload, but mostly procrastination + neffing here.

Go to bed at 11:30? Who does that?

And I have classes 4 days a week, though I only have a night class on tuesdays.

Several of my friends are in bed before 11:30, some before 11 (including some weekends).

Anyway, physics and applied mathematics major here, and I have classes 5 days a week, MWF start at 9 a.m., TTH start at 9:15 a.m. I also work in a nanophysics lab 10 hours a week, tutor high school physics and math, teach SAT classes, and play ice hockey at a local rink. Throw in a decent social life, doing loads of problem sets and labs (it's one of the hardest schools in the country), and you've got me averaging <5 hours of sleep a night. Weekends aren't much better (maybe 6 or 7, and if it's a rare quiet weekend and I was drunk the night before, maybe 8).

I live off campus in a quiet apartment with my own room; on-campus last year wasn't bad, since all the suites are quite soundproof. But I'm sure it would be worse if I was living in a loud dorm like some of you people seem to be.

Since I'm taking 18 hours (6 classes) this semester, it's sure to be even more hellish.

Last semester I actually had classes 6 days a week which wasn't so bad except I really dislike 8:00AM classes now, I litterly fell asleep in my chemistry class twice. I'm a chemical engineering major.

Last semester, all my classes were at either 8:50 or 8 in the morning. I got between 5 and 6 hrs of sleep. I guess that explains why I was sick for a month straight. I have never had a semester where I've had a day off. This is my 6th semester.

I have 5 classes, and they are all only 2 days per week (from 8am-7pm). I made sure I registered the first available day and lucked out on my schedule. However I also work full-time (40+) hours per week which takes up the remaining 5 days of the week. I sleep about 5 hours per day on average, about 2-3 during midterms and finals. Ive been doing this over the past 3-4 years now, so its grown on me.

I just wanted to add that if you think you get to pick when your classes are you are in for a surprise come registation. Any class that is at a good time will either be full, confilcit with 7 other class, be restricted to students other then you, or most likely the class will only be offered at 8 am when your other class you need to take is only at 8pm on the same day.
