Please, leave pro's and con's on the board you have

Please choose the best, high quaity, great oc'n board from the list above.

If you don't like your board please vote what you wish you would have bought.

Thank you very much.

MSI= teh 0wn4g3
pros:
-mine gets up to 325HTT stable.
-looks great
-2x ethernet ports
nice price
Cons:
-Loud chipset fan (solved by downloading beta 1.5bios and ajusting chipset fan speed)
-Weird placement of IDE inputs makes it a bit more difficult to build.
-only SATA ports 3+4 are locked

these are just my nitpicks with the board, every board has them 😉
you might want to wait for DFI to release a new S939 board, they are a truly great company.

For the price the Abit AV8 isn't too bad. You can get them under $100 now. Add a 3000+ winnie and some PC3200 Value RAM and you have a great system for the price.

The AGP lock with a FSB greater then 250-260 is having pblms and this is effecting 3D stability with the 3000+ winchesters because of their 9x multiplier, but by going with the 8:2:! divider I can get 2.5Ghz out of mine (278 FSB, Prime stable for 24 Hours, 3D stable). Hopefully they will fix the AGP lock in the next bios release or add a 9:2:1 divider (currently they have 6:2:1, 7:2:1, 8:2:1, Lock 66, Lock 74), that should allow me top push this to 300HTT (2.7Ghz), but i will probably need a better cooling system for that, currently i am using the retail HSF that came with the CPU.

the Asus K8V SE deluxe is a 754 board, and on top of that has no pci/agp lock, and that means not the best OC'ing. I own one and it's pretty stable though. but for 939, I suggest MSI. If you were going 754, DFI is the way to go.

I would recommend people looking for extreme OCing stay away from the
Asus A8V and Abit AV8. Both of these boards have the VIA K8T800 Pro chipset, and many are running into a road block at 230mz. Stay with an Nforce3 or Nforce4 MB.
If you are cooling on air, and only want a slight OC up to 220mz, then you'll be fine. But anything over that and you'll hit a roadblock.

Abit Av8 and 3000+ Winchester 1.8Ghz stock OCed to 2.5Ghz (38%) using Retail HSF. For $100 this a decent OCing mobo in my opinion. Prime stable for 24 hours and 3D stable.

Sure didn;t work for me ! I can;t get anything to work on this froggin board past 220, not even 222 ! Its a zero overcloker as far as I can see. I will be ordering an MSI to try....

If we include NF4 boards of course it's DFI, then MSI NF4 delux...but I know BTbam was talking NF3 939 per our PM convos.🙂 Plus that's all he listed in poll...AGP boards.😛

Unless those boards offer the MOSFET heatsink cooling, copper chipset HSF, and the BIOS features of the ABIT AN8.... I think they will get their asses handed to them. 😛

Of course there are no AN8 reviews yet.... But if the Fatal1ty AA8XE is any indication of what the AN8 will do... It will be sweet... 😉 Every possible voltage adjustment at a high enough ceiling to really push an OC... Cooling where it counts to keep it stable... (Do I like this board? ) Quality capacitors.... etc...

I have been waiting around for almost 2 years to upgrade, but nothing has given me a rise until I checked out the AA8XE review I linked above. I now have to decide which route to go... Push for 5GHz with the AA8XE, or go with a nice AN8 rig (after the reviews roll in) My Vapochill will fit either....😎

I am well aware of the plus and minus of either platform... So please, no AMD is superior to Intel (or visa versa) comments please... The decision will be suited to my needs. 🙂

When the eagle shits... (Tax Return), I will post in depth benchmarks of whichever route I go...

Sorry to ramble somewhat OT.... 😉
