Oh jeezle! Under $350 kinda puts me out of this topic I suppose. Ya, for that price range I'd be looking at Alpine or Pioneer. Well, if you need more help, I would be HAPPY to recommend stuff or point you to links. I dont like to share MY opinion, but rather a general (as in the community) type opinion, so I could give ya link n whatnot. But, in general I would do Pioneer or Alpine on deck, Adire Audio Shiva subs (Yes, for the posts here I'll bet ya 10 bucks everyone sayd JL Audio....) Say...Oh, Rockford or Phoenix Gold on amps...Pioneer or Infinity components, but to save a few bucks and give up sound quality you could do coax up front...What is it goin it? Whats your goal? Decent sound? "proper" sound..ie. the correct, concert hall type soundstage? Lotsa stuff to consider.....Its usually best to plan before goin and buying just to make sure you have it right...Well, good luck anyways!

My goal is to replace my casseset Deck. I have a 2000 Jetta.. and its quite sad to not have a CD player.... I am tired of the Radio and using a Mp3 player with an adapter. I want good sound quality, but i am not an audio freak. I just want something thats clean and not flashy. I am not one of those people that turn their sound so high that their whole car shake. I am just alittle stuck on deciding on which brand is the best value for the money. btw... i work at BestBuy, so i guess i get a PREETY BIG discount on the audio stuff. I guess the most important thing is to be able to hear the highs and the lows without sacrificing the quality. Am I asking too much for $350?

Thanks

My friend used to sell car stereos, and when I was looking to buy one, he told me that aound 60% of the Sony models that they sold were returned due to dissatisfaction or breakage. I've spent some time investigating the major brands, and I like the Pioneers.

The three Aplines that I tested (sorry can't remember model numbers) all had the same "over fuzzy" sound when I played Classical. The Pioneers sounded much better, especially when paired with a good amp and nice speakers.

I had a Pioneer DEH-20 that I was fairly happy with. I have a Kenwood now, it was cheap and isn't too good, but at least I can listen to tunes in my car. I've heard good things about Clarion, but I've personally never listened to one.

Blaupunkt might have what you're looking for. They're not so flashy. I hate flashy when it interferes with simple operation, very important while you're driving. You can browse through their models at Crutchfield.

BTW, I voted for Alpine, but Blaupunkt would have been my second choice.

I don't know about Porsche, but I know Honda sources most of their radios from Alpine.

What kind of system were you listening on? As in, speakers an amps...

For $350, I would definetely go for an Eclipse, someone said that they're made out of cheap plastic and 1 yr replacement if installed by dealer...That's 3 yrs by dealer, 1 yr self install. Get your fvcking facts straight before you start bad mouthing a good company. Have you even seen/used an Eclipse to be making such stupid a$$ remarks?

Someone likes Eclipse a lot here! Watch out, I might just check them out and start recommending them too.

I like Eclipse, Yes. But I also like Alpine and Pioneer a lot, I just can't stand people running their mouths about stuff that they really don't know...

and btw someone told me that Porsches uses Blaupunkt for they factory audio is that true?

Porsche at least had Blaupunkts as OEM in the past cuz my friend's 944 has a stock Blaupunkt.. it's worthless crap (tape and from the 80's) and he hates it but the 944 had a Blaupunkt as OE..
