Poll: Fender or Gibson?

Well they're two different animals. I've always favoured Fender be it Strat, Tele or Jag. I use Rickenbackers however more than Fender or Gibson. I never liked the "fat" Gibson sound.

That's actually a tough call, I play and love Fender Strat's but I've always been able to get a crankin tune out of a Gibson. But I think it goes with your playing style, weight preference, etc...but Fender rules..

I Love the Strat body.. I hate the sound...

I Love the FAT sound of a Les Paul, I hate the body...

ESP get's you somewhere in between. 😉

Eric Clapton
Jimi Hendrix
SRV
Jeff Beck

I'll take the fender. (I know these guys played various gibsons at times, too, but their main
guitar was a fender)

Neither. I prefer Kramers.

I like Strat-type guitars over Les Paul-type guitars, but I don't care for Fenders themselves. Go figure.

It's all taste anyways. Play what sound and feels good to YOU.

Well, Martins are the best ... 😉

As for Fender vs. Gibson, I own and play both. I have a vintage 'Strat, a re-issue 'Tele, a LP, and a '61 SG LP. But my main guitar is my '89 Fender Strat Eric Clapton Signature Series. It's a superb guitar, I esp. like the lighter body and the slimmer neck suits me well. But the best part is the built-in mid-range boost system which can give you a good approximation of that so-called "fat" Gibson LP sound. In fact, that's the reason EC had Fender develop this guitar for him - you can get the best of both worlds out of this guitar.

I've played an American Strat but I've got a mexi-strat, a Gibson LP Studio, and a Schecter C-1 Plus w/EMG 81 and 60. To be comepletly honest my favorite out of them all is the Schecter, it's got a strat body with an LP sound? But in keeping with the question, between the American Strat and the Gibson LP, I'll go with the Gibson.

My Peavey (Generation Series) has always been good to me. It's basically a Telecaster copy. Couldn't afford a real Tele at the time.

If I had my choice (and infinite cash) - Ernie Ball Music Man or Peavey Wolfgang (or a decent American Tele).

Fender, I guess.

I like them both... And would bey both (If I had the money... When I had an electric guitar, I had a Fender American Standard smokey sunburst with an ebony finger board... This was back in my single days and I ended up selling it because I needed money to pay bills... That was a painful day...

🙂

I go both ways. I like Fender Strats, but not Teles. I love Gibson SGs, but don't like Les Pauls. 😕

I guess if I had to choose one, I'd take an SG.

well... i play pop punk mostly, and i LOOOOVE my fender strat... it's a 96 strat with EMG Active Pickups, combine that with my JCM2000 DSL half stack, you get the sweetest sound, better than my dad's custom les paul

Get a Carvin. Gibson's are way overpriced for what you get. My carvin feels better and sounds better than any Gibson i've played. I tried a 3000 dollar PRS archtop and I liked my Carvin way better. But, i'd definately go for the Gibson if I had to, they do look cool. (in fact i might just buy one some day just for the hell of it)

I've got a 68 strat and an 82 SG. I never liked the SG though when I played it I would bend the neck with my fingers. I had to many years playing the fender and never developed a light touch.

So I like the Fender better.

Great guitar, wished I'd never sold mine.
