Poll: Ever have fraudulent credit card charges? -- check your statements!

So I get this colorful Citibank envelope with my monthly CC statement, but (surprise!) I get a couple of extra charges for $9.95 and $49.95.

"8668115399 webvschlp.com -- 8009828272 PA" 9.95
"8668115399 netflladm.com -- 8009828272 PA" 49.95

Both are bogus domains claiming to cancel your adult subscription information, but they need your CC number. 😛 Damn, and I was reaching my 6 year anniversary without being defrauded. Ah well, check your statements carefully each month and take the poll! 🙂

Happened to me about a year and a half ago, $9-10 charges from some Russian company. I only buy from reputable companies online but one of them was apparently hacked and were stupid enough to be storing CC numbers on a web-connected server :|

somebody went wild with my cc,racked up over $1,600 in bogus charges in less than 16 hrs.. I'm still digging out from the mess it caused 🙁

Victoria's Secret called me up at 9pm one night about 6 months ago...

Operator: "John, we just wanted to confirm a rather large order that you placed and having shipped to Venezuela."
Me: "Ummm... No."
Operator: "Well, it looks like someone has a hold of your Visa number and is using it."
Me: "Are they at least buying nice stuff?"
Operator: "Oh yeah, it's very nice!"

After that conversation ends, I get online to check my transaction history. Looks like the culprit has already charged about $250 to the Hard Rock Cafe and about $80 to somewhere else (that I never heard of.) Both were online transactions.

I called the credit card company, and they nixed all charges. They sent me a form, I filled it out and sent it back... No big deal.

Going on my fifth year of shopping on the internet, and that's the only problem I've incurred.

I check all my bank accounts habitually every morning. For online stuff I ALWAYS make a one-time use number with a pre-set limit; this is built into anyone with an MBNA credit card. God only knows why some places like to store your numbers but they do. Mine are totally and utterly useless to anybody that gets them after they've been used.

Here's a whopper.

I had $ 5077.00 charged to my Credit Card. When my statement came in I almost fainted.

The card he/she used had a different name and different expiration date from mine.

To make a long story short, the card company resolved it and the only cost to me was $10.00 for the notary public but it took a long time to straighten it out.

Ditto. So far, one bogus about a year ago.

and once i got a cell phone sent to me...stupid college website tricked me into signing up for it...
i sent it back (it was broken) but now at&t is trying to bill me for "usage" that i didn't use. they're sending the bill collectors after me
i won't pay i tell you!!! 😀

2 times. Both on my amex blue card. I forgot what the first charges were for, but it was about 6 months ago. Then a couple of AOL charges 2 months ago. I just called up amex and they took care of it. I love american express customer service, it's great! 🙂
