NPR is doing their semiannual beg-a-thon this week, which made me wonder: has anyone here ever forked over any cash to a local public broadcaster?

Vote and discuss.

Neva. PBS hardly ever has cool stuff on. The other night though, I saw the best show about roos in the Outback. Dingos are their worst enemy. I did not know that.

Yes. I've donated on a few occasions to PBS. Shows like Nova and Masterpiece Theater were a staple for me growing up and I feel they are very educational.

Not to mention Sesame Street and The Electric Company and ZOOM! :)

I once did long ago, just because they were broadcasting motorweek (a weekly auto road test show) . But then they kept changing the broadcast schedule every three weeks or so, really pissed me off because I would never know when it would air. I stopped donating and shared with the station my reasoning behind it. They didn't even care, no reply or anything, screw 'em.

I give annually to NPR, since I listen to them daily as I commute. Any organization which keeps Car Talk on the airwaves is deserving of some of my change.

I don't donate; and on the rare occasion that I actually turn on the radio, it will definitely not be to the NPR channel (my dad loves it, however :Disgust;).

I would consider it, but during their beg-a-thon, they always replace This Old House and stuff with that Feel Good BS

Sadly, no. I mooch my NPR. But only so I can feel guilty when their radio personalities accuse me of stealing radio. "You pay your cable bill, you pay for your newspaper subscription, but not public radio... for shame..."

NPR - once, back when I was listening regularly.

PBS - several years in a row, back when they were getting new episodes of Red Dwarf.

Now that our PBS is the all "Hell Freezes Over" and "Black & White Night" channel, I'm not watching so I'm not paying.

No... well other than my donation via tax dollars of course. Tried to buy from their auction a couple of times but lost.

I used to, since I watched enough shows. But then they started sending me junk mail. Tons of "buy this merchandise" and "donate more" and "be a sponsor" stuff. It had to cost more than I ever donated.

So I figure I'm saving them money by not donating.

Donated to a local jazz radio station once. Now make yearly contributions thru the CFC - if we do well, a supervisor gets a cream pie in the face. Boy, a bunch of us wanted to to have our hand on that pie. Uh...
