Which one of engine do you prefers? answer in poll..

Tell me why you prefer one over other too.

No I'm not adding anymore options. This is a poll about which one you'd pick if you were hypothetically in a situation you had to pick one type from two choices.


S2000 and Mustang were only examples of each type.

The real question is if you had to pick between a very close or same hp engine, whether you'd pick a greater displacement American engineered engine or Japanese engineered engine. I am talking about if you had to pick between two, so European is not an option in this particular poll.

Neither. I'll take a nice torquey V6 like the nissan VQ.
But, if I had to choose, gimme the V8.

damn.. 426 is nearly 7liters :Q

It still fits in American roarer catergory at about 1hp/1cid. Honda S200 is 1.96hp/1cid

Definitely V8. And don't try and tell me that anything sounds better than a Pontiac 400. Other favorites include Chevy 383; Ford 302, 351W, and Ford FE engines; Ford 300 I6. Drool.

Neither.

If I could shoehorn any engine into my car, it would be this engine. It's the new VW 10 cylinder TDI engine that puts out 313bhp and 552lb.ft of torque, all while getting 35+MPG.

I'd rather have the high-reving engine. A 2.0 is still kinda small no matter how many RPM's you give it however, but a 6-cyl @ 9000rpm w/ a pair of turbos is a nice combo.

What is a 'roarer' and 'screamer'. Couldnt the 8 cyl 'scream' and the 4 banger 'roar'? Maybe some engines just limp wrist along making no noise at all.

I guess Id go for the four banger. Gas money is a biatch.

Hehe, the engine in my truck is rather large at 488ci or 8L. It only put out about 300 hp in stock form,but the engine was screaming for forced induction because of the stock 8.1 to 1 compresion ratio.

How about a 455?

I had a 400 in my '69 Catalina and it took that 4000 lb. car up to speed pretty good with a few mods.

I've never heard a Pontiac 455, but I do know that the Ram Air IV heads off of the 400 can be built to breathe fairly well. But even without an expensive head buildup, some Doug Thorley headers and flowmasters will make that engine sing. I imagine with a fairly decent buildup, it could make 360hp and 430lb-ft.

Give me either a good old Chevy 327 or 350. Like someone else said, at least I can work on them. They'll last forever, beat down these new little 4 poppers and tow anything.

Honestly though, I like both types of engine. Both ends of the spectrum, the Colin Chapman (Lotus) approach, "For speed, add lightness.", and the W.O. Bently approach, "World's fastest lorries.".

I like small-displacement large-turbo engines... it's power and efficiency rolled into one! Good gas mileage at low revs for toodling around town, high performance at high revs for the track.

Both are appealing but I'm more comfortable with small, high-revving engines. When I'm behind the wheel of a big V8, I just want to floor it all the time whereas I can control myself better with a car with a weaker low-end torque. Neck-snapping torque can be fun if you aren't jaded by it but I like engines that spool up over an extended rev band.

I voted for the high end screamer, but it's all good, as long as it doesn't feel like it's out of breath before 6000 RPM. Shifting like a trucker just isn't my style when I'm trying to have fun.
