<< i agree with the comment that using pico is ignorance, if you ever bother to learn how to use vi (or even icky emacs), you will realize how bad pico really is, hell I have been using vi for a bit now and I never have to even move my hands from the keyboard when editing my code, email or what have you. >>

Exactly. Just because an editor has a slight learning curve doesn't mean it's only useful for gurus, programming, and overkill. The whole point is, vi is much more efficient to use than pico once you learn it. It's not that difficult to learn, and there's really no good reason to use pico if you know vi -- except for pico's justify feature if you don't want to figure out how to do it in vi :)

I don't have much experience with emacs, but I imagine it's similar in that the learning curve makes it worthwhile -- though I could never get over the long startup times.

If you're using UNIX and can't understand this concept (slight learning curve initially, to yield higher efficiency in the longterm) -- then you should be using Windows. Honestly. That's why many of us use UNIX. Not to be l337, but because we realize that there are more efficient ways to do things. Don't give up hope, there's still time. I used pico at first when I started using Linux because vi scared me. Once I got over that fear and just used it, I couldn't comprehend how I got by using pico before.

Thank you GL! I used PICO when I first started...for about a month, until it horqued a config file because it wrapped, and that was the end of that. :)
