Is there anyone that uses the Dvorak keyboard layout. i just heard about it and it sounds good but i want to know if it is worth it.

I figure it would take me 1-2 hours a day for 3-4 weeks to get to know the layout well. I am going into my sophmore year in EE and i would appreciate worthwile responses. please do not crap all over this. i already saw nullthis post but i want to know if anyone actually uses dvorak or if anyone recommends it.

dvorak layout

it is designed to place the vowels and common letters in the home row, next most common letters in the top row and other keys in the best locations based on ergonomics and key usage.

In your control panel, under Keyboard, you can make Windows think that your keyboard has the Dvorak layout. Then, just pop the keys off of your keyboard and switch them over. In Windows 2000, I see a "United States -Dvorak" setting.

dvorak is way better than qwerty, i'd definitely recommend switching
i just switched about a month ago... it's probably easier than you think to get used to it. after an hour i already had the layout down... then you just gotta spend a few weeks to make it more natural

they say it is better because it is ergonomically correct and more efficient. the common keys are located in places that are located were you would best use them.

the qwerty setup is so that when people used early typewriters the keys wouldn?t jam by having letters in the same words be close to each other

i dont know how fast i type but it is likely well below 50 wpm when i am typing accuratly. this is probably a better idea for people that do not touch type or type with minimal to moderate skill.
