I have $450 in Best Buy Gift Cards, its like 10 cards. I been saving them since xmas.
But I don't know what to buy. Originally I wanted to get a Nikon DSLR camera. Cheapest would be the Nikon D40. But since HD-DVD lost the war I was thinking of getting the PS3 for the blu-ray player and for showing pictures and music files on my living room TV and occasional video game playing.

What would you guys or ladies do?

Edit:
Does the PS3 40gig for $399 still come with a free blu-ray movie (Spiderman 3)?

PS3, without question. It's an awesome piece of hardware, and I don't even play games on it! :)

I like photography. Took photo in high school and college. Used to have a Nikon D70 but sold it because I didn't have enough time to go out and take pictures. I have lots of pictures stored in my PC that I would like to show to family and I saw that the PS3 has UPNP support like the Xbox. I'm heavily leading into the PS3, but still not sure.

DSLR gets you females, a PS3 doesn't. Obviously everybody who said PS3 is ___.

The camera is going to be a money pit if you want to buy any decent lenses for it.

Yeah, but if you're willing to buy used games and games that have been out for a year or more, you can get a ton of games for not a lot of money. Last time Gamestop had their buy 2 get 1 sale, I got 9 games for ~$100.

Hardly. I can still take excellent pictures with a 10D which is over 5 years old now.

I'd get (and actually just got) the PS3, but then I'm not really into photography. And heh, I am married. How would a DSLR get someone laid?

Hardly. I can still take excellent pictures with a 10D which is over 5 years old now.

Yeah, my Fuji wasn't even top of the line when I got it four years ago and it still takes the exact same quality pics it did brand new. I can't see any reason to replace it until it stops working. I don't need more than 4MP.

However the glass would be the money sink. PS3 games don't buy themselves sure, but how many games (and hours of fun from those games) can you buy for a single decent lens? A $300 lens (which is IMO on the "cheap" end of decent) is easy 5 games+tax.

I voted for camera b/c I would rather have a camera then a PS3. My setup is able to play Blu-ray from my PC, so just have to spend $100 or so on a drive and I'm set. I wouldn't play games on the PS3 so it's only use is for Blu-ray.

I have both.. a PS3 and a D80 with a number of lenses. I've spent way more on my D80 than my PS3 and 360 combined. :eek:

Get the camera. Much more fun and it gets you out of the house.

I don't think spider man 3 comes with any of the new systems, but I could very well be wrong.

However, spider-man 3 SHOULD NOT be a selling point for you.....that thing is worthless, why would having SP3 make or break buying a PS3? for shame....
