802.11 b/g run on the 2.4ghz spectrum as well. 802.11 a runs on the 5.8ghz spectrum (and I'm not sure about n).

Anyway, I had the same problem. i fixed it by changing the channel in my router settings.

n is same as B/G (2.4Ghz).

n can use both 2.4-based and 5ghz-basedfrequencies

Interesting.

you really didn't know?! you are going to have so much fun with it then😀

Channel 11 is most likely to be interfered with by a microwave oven.
Try channel 1 or 6.

Do not use 2-5, or 7-10 ... channel 1, or channel 6.

If you want to be a little more precise, download Netstumbler (www.netstumbler.com) and it'll tell you who's on what channel, and show you some signal-to-noise figures to help you make a better decision.

Most wireless routers come out of the box set for Channel 6, so IMO, channel 1 is usually the best blind choice.

Good Luck

(ps: get you microwave checked for leakage ... )

No, it doesn't seem to effect my wireless connection at all. Although the microwave is on a different electrical circuit as well as being about 20 feet away with a wall between it and my wireless router/dsl modem combo.

Well, I'll have to try ScottMac's suggestion re: channel 1 or 6. My 802.11g router screws with my cordless Logitech G7 mouse, and I've changed channels a few times to no avail, but I don't think I've tried 1 or 6. I'm guessing that the interference I'm having might also have to do with the fact that I've bumped up the transmit power of my router (using DD-WRT).

Microwave ovens stomp over the entire spectrum used for 2.4 Ghz Wireless. They destroy it and the more powerful they are the worse it is. Only thing you can do is try to get the sender and receiver away from them.

Outside of that always best to try channels 1, 6 or 11 to see what works best.

Our wireless router is right next to the microwave and we haven't had any issues with it. Not sure what channel it's on. We use a Netgear and we tried a Linksys before but it had all sorts of problems (I think its due to a lot of people in the building using Linksys, never could get it to work right, haven't had any problems with the Netgear that I can recall).

I'd test it, but I can't use my iBook with the door closed. Maybe I should take the turntable out so I can see the screen for the duration of the test.

😛

To answer the question...no....never had any trouble with the microwave and wireless...

Please ask a friendly Marine how to listen for landmines, thank you.😀

..they both operate on similar frequences. Both use short wave length RF radiation. Both will cause moisture in soft tissue to heat and cook. Think of your cell phone as an unshielded microwave oven. Is your oven ringing??
