getting a gift for a pool of people... was wondering what the percentage of people who would have bluetooth would be.

Also, I'd like to know when they first started becoming popular... was it a year ago ? 1.5 years ago ?

i would say BT started getting popular about 1.5 years ago though it's been around for a lot longer.

it supports it from Moto, but VZW cripples it, short of headset use
so it would take like $40 for cable and software to hack the phone and void warranty to do it

Yes and I'd say it really gained popularity this year. Now I see every day people walking around with BT headsets.

My phone supports bluetooth, but I don't really have a need for it.

I just got my phone last week (Sony Ericsson w600i) and it has bluetooth. Pretty nifty as it syncs with my work PowerBook and you can use it as a presentation remote...

i use BT to transfer pictures from my SE T630 to my desktop as well as synch my palm E2 with the desktop - it's much much easier than fumbling around with proprietary USB cables

BLuetooth headset is awesome for driving, a lot safer too, as theres no cable to get tangled in. Also m BT headset allows me to acces my voice dial list at the press of one button on the headset itself, waht WIRED headset can do THAT?
