Poll: Does racism exist today?

Are you racist or anyone you know? Please be honest with your answers, it is anonymous.
When answering this question ask yourself:

Do I consider everyone equal?
Would I date someone no matter what race they were?
Do you have friends of different races?
Do I automatically assume stereotypes such as Blacks are stupid, Mexicans are lazy?
Do you think think of ANY race as inferior to yourself?
etc.
Even if you only feel this way about one race, please still answer yes.

i think everybody is racist

i do not think everybody is equal (after all, i'm so much better than you all 😛)
yes, although some races just don't do it for me (namely africans... sorry... tyra banks but that's about all 😛)
yes, i have friends of different races
yes, i assume stereotypes... but it is more or less based on cultural things, not racial. i would have a different stereotype for a well-dressed black guy than a black guy in rags.
no. i think the races are like races in starcraft, they all have their strengths and weaknesses, for the average person 🙂 why would the races be equal? you can't tell me that its just coincidence that asians are shorter than whites and blacks. not to say that one is better. is an apple inherently better than an orange? no, but they are still not equal.

Do I consider everyone equal?
No, there are a lot of idiots in the world.

Would I date someone no matter what race they were?
Yes, I've dated a couple of Asians, a couple of Latinos, and a black girl for a while in college. That was some damn good brown sugar!

Do you have friends of different races?
Yes, many.

Do I automatically assume stereotypes such as Blacks are stupid, Mexicans are lazy?
Not automatically but there are areas of town where the population is heavily minortiy and the people that live there fit those stereotypes 99% of the time.

Do you think think of ANY race as inferior to yourself?
Yes, Yankees.

But, then again sometimes I question whether I'm racist or not because I just don't sit back and let all the sh|t happen 🙁

nik

yeah the destruction of purity and the sanctity of the amrican people sucks huh?

(weezergirl, this thread is soo flamebait)

Just because someone won't date someone of a different ethnicity, does not make them a racists.
We all have preferences and discrimnate in our judgement of others.

There are plenty of rascist people in America.

That about sums it up. And you also can't argue with facts either, which in turn become part of present-day culture. Like this.

Nope.
Yes...but I am more likely to date somone of my own race.
Yea, but not as many.
Yes, I do, but usually not on race, more on appearance, the way they act, etc.
No.

btw, the first question can be interpreted differently.......maybe you should reword it along the lines of "Do I consider all races equal?" Because, not all people are equal, for example, physical strength, mental capacity, etc.

Haha, like the Starcraft line🙂 But Terran is so much better😛

oops... forgot the questions...

Do I consider everyone equal? as far as race goes, yes
Would I date someone no matter what race they were? yes
Do you have friends of different races? yes
Do I automatically assume stereotypes such as Blacks are stupid, Mexicans are lazy? no (but at times, the thought does cross my mind before I slap myself silly)
Do you think think of ANY race as inferior to yourself? no

Nonetheless, I'm sure there are subconscious things that go on, for instance, I have never found myself attracted to any non-white woman. Take it for what it's worth...I've never consciously excluded them, I just never saw anyone that caught my fancy.
So I say yea. Anyone who doesn't is fooling themselves. You might not be Jim Crow, but I don't think anyone completely escapes their own racism.

Racism in the context of the question must be defined before the question can be answered. Racism means different things to different people.

^ You're right in that regard. I disagreed with Jim Crow and of course hate the KKK, but I do have reserves. We all do to some extent, even if it's just barely embedded in us from society/media/culture, we all certainly recognize differences. It really depends on just how far your stereotypes have to go to be considered with such a hard word as 'racist'.

i always interpreted "racist" as discrimination or prejudice on the basis of race (in which case, i, like everybody else, am a racist), but i guess if you take a more narrow definition (ie, that one race is superior to others), then i'm not a racist.

In part I intended my question as a demonstration of how nebulous the concept can be... with a proper perspective one can define many behaviors as racist... and perhaps they are...

I was born and raised in Kentucky and have been all over that state I've also spent a good deal of time in the deeper south I can tell honestly say I am sure that racism exists, I cannot say whether or not I am racist by your definition... I try NOT to be racist by mine...
(I'm not saying that racism only exists in the south I assure you I don't think that, however I'm aware of the stereotype and do not mind using it to make a point.)

Yeah, racism exists. I get discriminated against all the time. I was denied scholarships. I have been laughed at when in public, and generally scorned while trying to help people. All because of my color. It sucks.

-everyone is NOT equal
-No I wouldn't. There are some "races" where I dont find their women attractive, *at all*. Doesn't make me racist.
-yes
-yes, but that isn't racism, it's prejudice.

1. Yep
2. Sure
3. pretty much all of them
4. nope
5. nah

I am not racist, but I do love racist jokes. jewish and black ones are the funniest, too bad I'd get banned if I posted them though.

oh yeah, the biggest racist I know...my dad!

yeah, he hates indians, chinese, muslims, jews, blacks, gypsies. You name it, he hates it 🙂

Webster says this about "racism":
1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race; 2 : racial prejudice or discrimination
By this definition I don't believe I'm a racist. I generally treat everyone equally. If you deserve chastisment, you'll get it regardless of your heritage. 😉

Does racism exist today? Yeah, unfortunatly.

One of my friends, who I also work with, was on a site visit in Sneedville Tennessee. He is an educated black man. He could not find the site, so he stopped at a gas station/convience store. He went to the counter and asked for directions to the site. The lady at the counter, without hesitation says. "Yeah, sure. Go out here, take a left. You'll come to a stop light. Take a right there, you'll come to a "T". Take a left there, and you'll be on 31. Once your on that, just keep on going." 31 is the road he took into town....

I couldn't be believe it when he told me this story.
