My big toe on my right foot cracks when I walk barefoot. It's pretty embarrasing actually :)

I can crack my fingers and ankles indefinately, and knees, and hips indefinately. I can also usually crack elbows, shoulders, neck, toes, and sometimes wrists. Most of these either started cracking or started cracking much more frequently in the past 6 months. It can make a good distraction during boring meetings.

Ankles don't spontaneously crack while walking though. Sometimes they do it when first getting up to walk. Same with knees.

BTW, does this count as yes or no if you crack your ankles, but not while walking?

My ankles crack and I asked my doctor about it. He said that air pockets somehow develop in the joints of the ankles and therefore makes a cracking/popping sound sometimes as your walk.

Mine only do right after I wake up in the morning. Also, my wrists also pop almost indefinately when I move them and I can pop just about every main joint in my body.

They ain't supposed to crack, fatty. :p I would suggest possibly checking with a doc and seeing if you need to add something to your diet to help your joints.....like maybe some motor oil. ;)

It's gernerally the result of a, not necessarily serious, injury. It's quite common and unless there is pain and swelling I wouldn't worry about it. Never a bad thing to mention it to a Dr. and get their take on it.

<--facing dual knee replacements at 40 or so :( Still got a dozen good years left though...

Don't you hate it when you try to be silent when walking past someones room and you don't want them to wake up, when suddenly your feet start cracking? I hate when that happens:frown:

Mine do. My doctor said its not anything abnormal, and as long as its not causing any discomfort.. don't worry about it.

Strangely, it doesn't get any better/worse when I'm hard on my legs.. (snowboarding)

No, cracking joints is not a sign of athritis, nor a cause of it. And no it does not damage your joints; all that's happening is air bubbles in the synovial fluid are popping. No damage to the joint. IIRC

Both of my ankles crack really loud. I broke my right one twice in multiple places too and have sprained my left on numerous occasions playing b-ball. I think that may have something to do with it. I don't really worry about it.

Not sure on this but I think it's from the amount of nitrogen in your blood. Hemoglobin will absorb nitrogen as readily as it does oxygen, especially if you are breathing stale office air all day. Your muscles can't actually use the nitrogen for energy like they can oxygen, so bubbles build up. The cracking is those bubbles popping.
