ya, thats just about all you have to do, write you screen name in the HTML, so for each member, just pull the screen name from the profile (if present) and write it in, and in this forum's case, it would be Cold Fusion, not cgi or perl.

AIM should be supported. I mean ICQ is and AIM is getting to be just as big if not bigger so why not support it?

I don't like ICQ, it always gets in my way and I can't stand that popup whenever you start it on 2000b and 2000a. All the other versions don't work with my firewall, so I just use AIM.

i asked about this in Forum issues a while back, it got shot down almost instantly, then dissapeared, i think Adul realizes that a thread must mature to full strength before it can handle the wrath of the Forum Issues folks.

Yeah I'd like for it to be added.
Up until a week ago I've been using icq exclusively, but I've switched over to AIM now.

Do you mean AIM, as in, messaging people through this forum?! Or do you mean a link that you can click on to get a lil window that pops up that you can choose to add that person to your buddy list or IM them from there? I presume the latter. ;)

Didn't read the whole thread, but are we talking support as in "problem/solution" support or for AIM as "The Official Instant Messaging Software of Anandtech Users"?

Yes either way

I vote yes for AIM.

I use AIM much more than ICQ basically because I like it better, I also like MSN messenger I know it's a microsoft product and I'm suppose to hate it but it's really does exactly what I need.

NOTE: There is new software called Imici that is suppose to be able to connect to 4 different messengers. It is in beta right now but it could be promising. I downloaded it and it's a simple interface nothing like the featured laden ICQ but sometimes that's all u need.

i think it should be supported, simply bc lot of people use it. i know alot of computer illiterate college girls or boys, who use aim in their dorms or in their apartments, bc it is the best form of communication when using the comp besides e-mail. they dont care to use icq, bc it is barely known by the them and the masses, in their eyes it is more complicated, and not as easy to use. i dont really use icq that much bc no one really has it. only the comp geeks use icq ,hehe. aim still has alot of improving to do, and needs alot of the features icq has though(interface customization, text history, ect)

The difference is: with ICQ, you're sending it "anonymously", you don't need to actually have ICQ installed to send a msg.

With AIM, it opens an AIM window on your account to send a message.

Also, my AIM security settings block anyone not on my buddy list. Sorry, too many pre-adolescent 12 year olds begging for favors on a MUD I used to be imp on gets on my nerves after a while ;)

Pretender pointed out the technical reason why AIM would be a bit more difficult to implement. There is a URL scheme for sending AIM messages, but it requires the client be running. No requirement like that on ICQ.
