like the present icq feature? or more integrated.
I'd like to see an anandtech minder, you could run on any system you use; that alerts you of thread updates, in a super simplified manner, that would drop msg's of older updates in a thread, like the today window but more accurate, and not have to have a full browser window open, and also free up email clogage, or maybe an icq bot that would msg you?

Yes.

fdiskboy,

So they should get rid of the ICQ option since it is owned by AOL?

um...if you know anything about cgi or perl, its more than a simple link, but not that advanced.

Yes it is just a simple link to send someone an IM from a webpage.

check out http://www.aol.com/aim "add aim to your website"

anyone who has AIM 2.0 or higher installed supports links of type "aim:"

AIM is less invasive than ICQ and though ICQ has more features, chix use AIM (ICQ is too much for most girls), so I use AIM

I think they should at least put a field in the profile where you can put in your AIM name, kinda like the icq one. Even better would be if they put the aimgoim thingy in there so you could click the AIM button and send the user a message if they say that they have AIM in there settings....

YA, but forgot about that technique, but it differs when you implement it with a variety fo users. that would work like say for the webmaster who could just replace his name with the one in the code. :)

ex: if you would want an icon like the icq in each of our posts, you would have the url http://www.aol.com/somewhere/user=namehere.something

and you could technically replace it with $this_user or whatever fuse talk uses, but it would display and icon whether or not the user on this board has aolim, and on top of that, the name would have to be the same as the one on the board.

to get it to work they would have to implement a field to enter your aol im during reggy or while editing profile, and commands to show an aol icon only if they entered a name and then it would work. im sure they have the hack for fuse talk out, i know they do for UBB. so it is more than just a link.

not getting away from the topic, but yeah i think aol im icon would be cool
