POLL: Do you tip when picking up take-out food?

My understanding is that a tip is for a service provided;
For example you tip a waiter who serves you in a restaraunt, or someone who delivers take-out food to your house.

How about if you go to the restaurant to pick it up?
I do not, but they have the space on the receipt for a tip, and always look at you expectantly...and I have seen some people tip.....what's your take?

Ack...let's make a poll

Maybe a buck or two. It still takes work and cooridnation from the chefs and wait staff to get it all ready and done in a timely manner.

What the hell is this!? :| You tip for SERVICE. You purchase the food, and that's what you get. If you go and sit down, you actually get SERVICE, so a tip is in order.

WTF is up with people and tipping now a days!?

No way, they should tip me to stay out of their establishment. I usually ask the wait staff for a lot of drink refills, just cause, I like to wash my meal down with 4-5 glasses of water.

counter service is generally not tipped on.

unless you listen to one of those have-more-money-than-they-know-what-to-do-with tip-book writers who tip everyone for anything.

Or you're part of the "family"...

amish 😉

depends: at sonic or a drive thru heeeellll no i don't tip

however; there is this one place that my family always eats at and we usually have the same waitress and if she is there when we pick up the food that we order for take out we tip her. that's about the only one

I tip everybody but then I freqiuent the same places all the time, they know me and how I like things and my order is usually always correct and it's ready fast, that and a pleasant attitude from the often over worked kids working in restaurants is worth something to me.

I tip on deliveries but not takeouts. I don't see why I should tip when I walked down to pick up my food. No different than shopping cooked food from Safeway.

There's a small family-owned restaurant a couple of blocks from where I live that makes excellent French Toast (and bacon, mmmm), and I always tip them when I pick up a phone order. Not only because their food's always very very good and their service great, but "them's good people"...

I normally dont. Depending on my mood, and how the person was who served/helped me. If it's Togo's or someplace that has a tip jar and they did prepared something, I will sometimes. If I have a mess of change, they get it all 🙂

if its a straight pickup.. then its sorta like buying from mcdonalds..no tip😛 if you make special demands with some insane order.. then yea i guess.
