POLL: Do you think your city/town would be a victim of terrorist attacks?

I live and work near DC (spent 9-11 watching smoke pour into the sky from Alexandria), so yeah, sooner or later.

I live in Livermore and could be attacked for a couple reasons. Number one we are only 30 or so miles from SF so if there was a nuclear bomb or anything fallout would reach us. Number two, there is of course the nuclear laboratories about three miles away. Maybe that could be a target....maybe.

Very possible. I live in Ra'anana, Israel. My house is less than 10km from the Palestinian territories. There have been several suicide bombings in the neighbouring town of Kfar Saba and one in Herzlia on our other side, but none recently. The popular shopping center here is a prime target for an attack.

if it was a real war, i'd be worried because we have several large oil refineries hear, and power plants and stuff. but for terrorists, i have no worries. they are going for psychological impact, not infrastructure.

I dont think so. NJ may be the most densely populated area but I dont think they will specifically hit it. An attack on NYC would affect the surrounding metro area.

Well i go to school in San Diego, so I have the naval base right by me which might be a prime target. But i'm from a town of 100 people in nor cal, which I doubt would be cause for concern

Considering how I live in Burbank, CA just blocks from NBC, Warner Brothers, ABC, Disney, Nickleodeon, etc.. I'd say my chances are slightly higher than most.. 🙂

no, i live in seattle. what's there to blow up... the space needle? the EMP? haha they can do the EMP if they want.

no, but i am worried about my in-laws in Atlanta, i guess the northeast cities are more likely, but Atlanta just seems like a likely alternative

My town is too small...but it's also close enough to NYC. So if something bigger than September 11th were to happen..we'd most likely be affected.

Portland Oregon? Or Beaverton? Not unless their target is the gays or the homeless, so we're all safe out here. :frown:
WTF is this supposed to mean? :| Do you have something against gay and/or homeless people?

I, too, doubt Portland would be a target. We just don't have very many people, or any significant targets compared to other major cities.

Both Portland and Forest Grove have major homosexual communities. We'll leave that one alone since every time I state my opinion (lifestyle bad, people good), it always gets thrown in my face like I'm not allowed to disapprove of homosexuality or something. So if that's what your intensions are, save your damn breath.

But did you see, a while ago, when the city of Portland moved the "homeless village"? The homeless were all protesting because they had to move and were now a little farther away from grocery stores, how they're being treated unfairly, etc. Since WHEN have they done anything other than bitch about what they're not getting because they deserve to have life served to them on a silver fvcking platter but then turn around and not add anything to society? GET A FREAKING JOB. :|

First my response to the Poll - I live in Michigan, so there's not much to blow up here...LOL

Next, my response to the above quotes by ffmcobalt...

You my friend have some serious issues... :disgust::|

1. NO, you are not entitled to "disapprove" of homosexuality, that's not up to you, and is no different than saying "I disapprove because you are a woman, or black, or chinese, or handicapped". It's bigotry and prejudice one way or the other. Also, Lifestyle is completely the wrong choice of words. Drinking is a lifestyle, smoking is a lifestyle, religion is a lifestyle, being gay is NOT. Using that word makes it sound like a choice or a habit, which it clearly is not. You should educate yourself a little bit on human sexuality, and the genetic studies on determination of sexual orientation before you spout ignorance like that. One more thing, it's intentions, not intensions.

2. There are many reasons that someone can be homeless... Simply telling these people to get a job is rediculous. Most of them do NOT in fact expect life to be handed to them on a silver platter. Many suffer from substance abuse, many are mentally ill, etc. Having this attitude about homeless people perpetuates the stereotype that all of these people are lazy, worthless bums. I think you should try volunteering in a soup kitchen sometime. Talk to these people. I guarantee your ignorant opinions will change, I know mine sure did.

Just my two cents, take from it what you want.

What with promises or terrorist retalition due to Iraq and various color levels of warnings, I was wondering if people felt at all threatened by a terrorist attack in the city/town where they live.

I live in the metro-Atlanta area and the only two targets I can think of would be the CDC and the airport. Unless of course, terrorists feel the need to strike at Coca-Cola or something. Anyways, even with those two targets, I think the likelihood of an attack here is very small...and yes, I would definitely hate to be proven wrong in this situation. I live and work 20+ miles outside of Atlanta so I would be relatively safe from anything short of strategic nuclear missle...

I live at Georgia Tech and what about all the financial buildings. Suntrust, Wachovia, and SouthTrust are all headquartered here, I think.
