I see that all the time. Who wants to waste their T1 bandwidth on some schmuck who wants a song? I don't even pay attention to line ratings anymore and just look at ping.

I'm with Pretender. I have rated myself as a 14.4. I once downloaded 3 songs from a guy on "14.4" and had them in less than a minute.

Impact55,

sssshhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! He went through a lot or trouble to hide Stairway to Heaven.

yakko, Impact55, LOL! :) Yes, that is the song, whatever, it doesn't matter, I have it on CD, so if anyone wants to prosecute me, they can just jam my Led Zeppelin "Zoso" CD right up their ass. ;)

If you had the song on CD you wouldn't be settling for lower quality MP3 recordings, let alone wasting your time and bandwidth.

Who cares if they lie about their connection, they can say whatever they want... It doesn't really make much of a difference, considering you should just be choosing by how low the ping is and if the bitrate is sufficient, etc.

What is really annoying, is when spend 20-45 minutes downloading a song on 56K, and when it finally finishes, you notice that there are audio-glitches throughout the song, due to a low-quality ripper/encoder or an incomepetent user. :(

When I was using Napster more I would often pick the 28.8 and less connections first. Basically nobody who Napsterizes is running 14.4 or 28.8, so when then they say that it's usually a dead giveaway that they're running DSL/cable/T1/T3.

Edit

<< If you had the song on CD you wouldn't be settling for lower quality MP3 recordings, let alone wasting your time and bandwidth. >>

MP3 is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Since most of my friends listen to completely different music than I do, I use Napster to find new stuff I like. When I find it I go out and buy the CD. Then I encode the entire CD myself (usually VBR, highest settings). It's much easier taking 3 MP3 CD-Rs to work than hauling around 35 CDs. It will be nice when I get my MP3/CD portable player too, but good ones are kinda scarce around here. I already have an MP3/CD player for my stereo system. Sound quality is excellent.

I've had the same thing happen to me many times. I just list myself as Cable and people rarely d/l from me. :)

Stealth, au contrair, I do have it and this mp3 was 256KB/s. If you'd like I'll get the CD out and take another screen shot.

I'm on ADSL, so I can only upload at 10K/s, and I don't download entire albums, only songs I want to put on CD mixes (I'm too lazy to dig out 10 different CDs, rip them, then re-burn them).

ltk: Is there anything good on the FTP?

Were you the one I did that to, Swag?

I do that to every single person who downloads files off me, who isn't sharing files in return, but I useally cut the connection at about 93%.

Hey, that must be the jerk that is stealing some of my bandwidth. That would explain why I am only getting .23 kbps with my 56.6 connection ;)

That happens all the time, it sucks! But, at least when I double click on a song, it starts downloading. Here at my cousin's on cable, 90% of the time when you attempt to download a song, it doesn't !#$ing work!
