A lot of the humor is dependent on your familiarity with black pop culture, and sometimes not black pop culture, but just old stuff from the 90s and 80s. So if you grew up in a big city and went to public schools you've been exposed to the stuff and you'll probably like the show. If you were a nerd who was afraid of thugs and/or black people when you were in high school then the show isn't for you.

That's really the impression I get as well. Chris Rock plays that card too, but does it better I think!Originally posted by: Woodchuck2000
Speaking as a Brit who's seen a few episodes, it seems just to be Chappelle stomping around saying "I am black! Other people are not! This is hilarious!!!" I don't see it being at all clever, or particularly funny...

I agree, whenever I've seen chris rock there's been more actual wit to his performance... Chappelle is very much 1) Take every-day situation 2) Change ethnicity of one participant 3) STEREOTYPE!!!!!Originally posted by: Skoorb

It's not big and it's certainly not clever.

it's pretty overrated.
ok people, he said the word "bitch." you can stop giggling like you're in 4th grade. it was almost funny the first time he said it, but the 10,000 time, it kinda lost its impact.
He's only anti-PC in that his 'comedy' is composed entirely of stereotypes. And that's not really anti-PC, it's just lazy. I'm offended more by the abject lack of wit than by his subject matter per se. If the white supremacist in that sketch had been white, it would have provoked outrage. Changing the colour of the character doesn't make it clever and it certainly doesn't make Chappelle a genius.Originally posted by: Nitemare
Who cares? He's funny as sh!t.Originally posted by: Woodchuck2000

Rick James piece and the Black White Supremacist had me rolling
He's anti-politically correct which is a refreshing change in this I'm afraid to say what I feel for fear it might offend some pansy-ass girlie men society
