He probably isn't. Might have a negative effect on "Peace Talks" if you come armed. ;)

I sure would, tho.

I agree with you all. He probably has someone hold his "you know what" when he pees...

"Sir, can get that for you?"

Let's face it though, the man knows how to use a weapon.

Arafat probably has an AK-47 in a shoulder holster on his left side. I know if I was him I'd have at least 2 vulcan miniguns on my along with several helicopter gunships shooting indesriminately anybody in my area.

<< Do you think Colin Powell is carrying a gun where he is right now? >>

Yeah it's called the most powerful Armed Force in the History of the World. There are those who would like Powell to be assasinated during this trip. However Arafat and any Arab or Palistinian or even Israeli who would like to see their children or their grand children reach adulthood are not among them.

That dude is so shacky from Parkinsons he'd probably kill his body guards first.

Unfortunately it's fairly obvious there are plenty of Palestinians who do not have such long term future goals.

The man was a general in the Army and head of the joint cheifs of staff, he does not need a gun to protect himself from some aging palastinian, besides, he isn't alone, he has army personell and body guards around him at all times, and to answer your question, no I don't think he is "packin heat" ;)

If Colin Powell, or any other high ranking U.S. politician were to be assassinated while being there I can guarantee we would see World War 3.

If I got paid as much as the SS does, and got to wear nice suits, expensive sunglasses, and pack fully auto submachine guns....yeah I'd take a bullet for Mr. Powell.

He is probably packing a pistol and definately has body armor on. he is surrounded by body guards who are armed to the teeth with Uzis and all sorts of nice goodies, and they are well trained and alert. When he meets with Yasser, IF he meets with Yasser, its a bonifide fact that Yasser will not have his weapon. If he did, there would be no meet. So, in that moment, when and IF a meet takes place, the two leaders will sit unarmed with nothing more than their arguments on how to settle this crap. Body guards,on the other hand, will be staring down their adversaries with hands at the ready to draw down in a split second. Because of this, their maybe good reason NOT to meet, because the temperature is too hot, and an excuse to shoot is too easy.

But as he travels, he is well protected from most trouble. God forbid any harm come to him on this visit. The middle east , if at fault, would never live it down, and more than likely our military would be envolved in settling all this, which at times seems to be just what the Arabs want,---------another target.

I heard his whole body is wrapped in C-4 and he's just waiting to get into the same room with Arafat to give him a taste of his own medicine.

He is not packing. It would be a sign of weakness, and of disrepect. He is safer where he is now than if he was in Wsshington.

Secret Service uses whatever the agent feels best with and is qualified on. It could be a Glok or Uzi or 1911. Whatever. You can bet they now how to protect Powell from someone coming at him through the crowd.

Actually they carry (quoting from secretservice.gov):

"Secret Service agents and officers carry the Sig Sauer P229, 357 caliber pistol. They also are trained on the Remington Model 870 shotgun, the Uzi submachine gun, and the MP5 automatic weapon."
