Poll: Do you smoke?

As I type......but i want to quit it's just too damn hard, waiting for health insurance to get some prescription to help me stop. Pfizer has some new drug for quitting smoking ,but it isn't coming out until maybe next yr :frown:

Easier said than done

I quit a few years back after 15 some years of smoking as much as three packs a day.

Nothing like seeing your 70 year old, three pack a day + mother laying in a hospital bed weighing all of 80 lbs and unable to breath on her own to give you the motivation to quit.

I still don't have all my lung capacity back. Though, I've been told it will be as if I never smoked 10 years after I quit.

We'll see...

It's proven medical evidence that all the black tar in the lungs never goes away, even if you haven't smoked for like 50 years. The lungs don't have any capacity to get rid of the sticky tar (and it is very sticky, much like glue). That's why smoking is deadly. It doesn't just cause cancer (and I believe it doesn't). What it really does it dirtens the lungs with tar, reducing their capacity over time and finally you aren't able to get enough oxygen at all.

The most common question smokers ask medics is: 'Will my lungs look like I never smoked if I quit and never smoke again?' The answer to that question is no.

Congrats on quitting. My friend in med school told me the same thing. The lungs start to repair itself as soon as u stop smoking.
