*POLL* Do you separate clothes when doing laundry?

Family of 5, breakdown of loads:

White towels

Mauve towels

Jeans/denim

Khakis/greys/yellows

Navys/Dark Greens

Reds/Oranges/Purples

Delicate darks

Delicate lights

Delicate brights

******************************************

I do at least 8 loads a week. Takes up pretty much most of my whole damn weekend. And then there is the ironing. It's only for 2 (my husband and me) so I can usually get away with doing it once a month.

I separate it into 4 piles: whites/lights, darks, blacks, and things that produce an extreme amount of lint (towels, flannel shirts, etc).

For me colors get washed in cold water. I don't do enough to get them dirty.

Now, my "untouchables" get washed in hot water and I use bleach.

i separate by temperature according to the washing instructions. if i have enough for multiple loads i separate by lights and darks as well.

If I don't have enough for more than 1 load, throw it all together in cold. If I do, then separate whites, light colors & dark colors (all colors together if not enough). The colors still all get cold, and the whites get half warm/half hot. I tend to only be really careful with clothes the first time they're washed. Test a little in warm to hot water with some detergent and see if it bleeds. If not, toss it in with the other stuff. Otherwise, wash separately once or twice.

WTF? You dry clean your jeans and t-shirts?

I'll sometimes mix stuff if I'm out of clean clothes and need something to wear to work, and only have time to do one load. But normally we try to separate everything. With myself, my wife, and 4 kids, including a 9 month old, we always have enough dirty laundry to separate into multiple loads.
Normally we do the following:

Whites
Dark colors
Light colors
Reds and pinks
Towels and sheets
