Do you run a IDE raid 1/5/(0+1) setup for data redundancy in home use ?

If so, what OS and setup do u have, and is it a software or a hardware raid ?

The only RAID I would use at home is RAID-0.

I have no need for redundancy at my house.

RAID-1 / -5 is mainly good for "real time" backup, not for long-term data safety. So no, I use CD-Rs (DVD-Rs soon) and offsite backup for data safety.

RAID won't protect you from:
- virus / worm / rogue OS / bad MS "patch"
- catastrophic power supply failure
- IDE controller and drive cable problems (data corruption)
- server theft

I did use "manual RAID 1" to back up my 800 FLAC'd CDs though, i.e. I copied all files on 1 - 250 GB drive to another. But then I removed the backup drive from the box to protect me from the failure points above.

I'd use it but I have a SFF PC so space is at a minimum. I do a monthly backup of all my juarez anyway, so if my HD fails, while it will take forever to get everything installed again at least I don't have to download it all.
