Do you regularly sync your iPhone/Touch with your computer?

If yes, how often?

If no, why not?

I sync every evening, including podcast and app updates.

Yes, at least once a week, minimally on Sunday evening. I want to make sure my iPhone has all the latest iTunes music purchases for the rest of the work week.

Not unless I have to. If I could never have to physically connect my iPod, iPhone or iPad to my mini that'd be preferred. Usually it's only because I have to for OS updates or to put new tracks on my nano.

Rarely. I use Mog for music, Dropbox for files, and Kindle for ebooks, then just download podcasts and apps directly from the iTunes and App Store apps.

For those of you who do not sync, are you concerned about losing your contacts if your iPhone dies or gets lost?

Even if I never synced my iPhone again, I'm not worried about losing my contacts since I use Google to manage my contacts. Then I use Exchange to sync my iPhone with Google so that my contacts and calendar use Push to sync with each other instantaneously.

And then I use Backupify to automatically backup my Google Contacts on a weekly basis.

I use gmail for contacts. Just add it as exchange instead of gmail and put m.google.com for the mail server. Put your user name without the @gmail.com for the user name. Works perfectly.

Yeah, i know how to do that. However, I don't use gmail for my personal or work email and I don't use my iPhone for much of my emailing (especially re: work), so I am not sure that is any kind of solution for someone like me.

If you don't want cloud sync (a la Gmail) and you don't want a tethered local sync (via USB), what do you want? Wireless local sync? They have that in Cydia for ten bucks:

I did not say I wanted anything different than what I have. I was just commenting an what had been presented as alternatives.

I sync my iPhone 3-4 times a week. Usually it's just a product of using my phone for lots of telephone conferencing (as Skype has turned into a big ball of crap) and needing to charge it, so I just plug it into the computer.

I sync my iPad maybe once a week.

Hardly ever. What a pain in the ass.

What about it makes it a pain in the ass?

I generally plug mine in when I am sitting down to do work at the computer for a while. Launch iTunes, check for updates and hit sync. Done in the background. And it comes out updated and fully charged.

Having to unplug the cable from the wall and plug it into the computer is usually enough to make me not do it.

Maybe I'm lazy, but fuck that. Need wireless syncing.

Hate iTunes with a passion. Runs slow, is laggy, takes ages to load (all that's from my SSD...), requires reboots after updates (1990 called, wants you back). Hence I sync maybe once a month? Probably even less than that. Usually when there's an update for my GPS app (Navigon, 1.8GB) or OS updates. This is also the only time I start iTunes these days.

I actually had this problem when I first got my iPhone, so I made my computer the only place to charge my phone (in the house), problem solved.

For me it's a pain in the ass because I have a ton of stuff on my computer and I don't want to SYNC. I want to add stuff on demand.

Why I don't sync often : Lost apps, Lost music, wasted time. When I do sync, I have to be all retarded about it and rate things 5 starts and just add them bulk like that, or individually choose each item I want to sync and hope for the best.

Sounds like you have not taken the time to set it up correctly.

I never lose apps or music. Never have.

Maybe I am just luckier than others.
