Poll: do you put your keys in your back pocket when working on your car?

If you don't know the theory behind this, here it is:

Keys are sharp and can scratch paint. When working on a car's engine, you lean over the fender and your pocket, with keys in it, rubs against the paint. Your keys, even through your pants could be able to scratch your car. If you put your keys in your back pocket they're no longer exposed to the paint.

err, if you put them in your back pocket and then sit on them, something a bit more valuable than your fender is at stake there!??!

i don't carry mine when working on my car(the little i actually do myself)
i leave 'em in the house

I lay a fender mat over the fender because I'm more likely to do damage with a tool. Then again I don't lean in over the fender but from the front so the mats on the nose but still...

I usually put my keys on the workbench in the garage - that way, they never get in the way.

Never thought about it like that. Nor did I realize that it would have such a sharp impact through the jeans.

Huh? Leave them in the ignition.

Worried someone's going to steal your car while you're working on it? Afraid your friends are so stupid they're going to try to drive away while you work on it? Just why would you have them in any pocket to start with?

Though if I needed the keys to open the trunk they might end up lying on the dash, but unless the trunk needs to be opened they're going to stay in the ignition. NOBODY is allowed in the car while you're working under it in the first place, second you hear that door latch sound you get out from underneath and start choking and explaining safety procedure to the idiot who tried to enter a vehicle up on jackstands. If you're bending over the fender the same thing, though chances are you'll see them before they ever get to the door.

In the kitchen, or on the washer in the garage. Never done the back-pocket thing...
