Same monitor, so maybe it's a difference in Nvidia's 2d output between generations. I'm on DVI too, just so you know, I run contrast at maximum (as monitors should be) and brightness around 55 (most people run their monitors way too hot, but that doesn't sound like an issue for you).

I run brightness at 28 and contrast at 100 (just upped from 80). and native resolution.

maybe your eyes are just that much better ;)

The tuner is only to tune for LCDs with different pixel layouts. Most, especially a big brand like Dell, should have the same RGB order, and that program won't help.

That's only one part of the tuning. It also adjust the contrast of the text and other things too.

I'm with Insomniak...I can't take it anymore. Seeing the rainbow while reading text really sucks. Like him, I'm also on a 1704FPT with a 6800 on board connected via DVI.

 with ClearType!

If you like regular better you need to have your eyes checked! Cleartype is by definition better, unless you are able to notice the color tinging.

I CAN see the color tinging, and it MAY have something to do with my 20/10 vision. Extremely strong eyes run in my family. My mother and father are both still 20/15 in their *fifties*.

here's a pic of the difference: http://pics.bbzzdd.com/users/dighn/cleartype.png

so you are saying the top one (with cleartype) looks worse than the bottom (without)?

well actually the effect is probably different on different monitors... oh well. anyway for me, CT is light years better looking.

Oh and for the love of God, use Internet Explorer? Are you insane?

hey i still use IE for windows update

The top picture with cleartype just doesn't look right. It looks a little fuzzy and has this pinkish hue (best way to describe it) around the letters. It's sort of like the RGB values haven't been calibrated correctly (if you've ever had to manually adjust the RGB settings of a 3-tube projection TV you know what I mean). Maybe it's because I'm running on a CRT here (19" capable of 1,920 x 1,440 @ 73Hz).

DPmaster, I agree with what you said. It's a very accurate description of how it looks on my screen as well. To me, ClearType just makes the characters 'fatter' and tries to anti-alias them, too. However, it just comes out a blurry mess to my eyes. It's very annoying at school because they have ClearType enabled on the computers with LCDs. :disgust:
