Poll: Do you play games with FSAA? Why or why not?

FSAA is one of the best features in graphics cards today. FSAA makes all of my games look better so much better. Games with lots of lines like Madden 2000 and Rogue Spear are pure eye candy.

FSAA is so great that I'll take a huge performance knock with my Geforce 2 MX.

all my games look sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

Being that I play driving games quite a bit, FSAA with my Voodoo5 has definitely been a very welcome feature. Personally, I prefer playing NFS5 at 640x480 and 4-sample FSAA, versus 1024x768 with no FSAA. There are many instances of edges that rotate in the game, and this is where FSAA makes the game heaven. All the edges look so smooth and really makes me wonder why I used to gawk at the game in 1024x768 on my TNT.

i play counterstrike with 4x fsaa. Once i reformatted and forgot to turn it back on, damn it looked horrible. Framerates at 800x600 are around 60+ most of the time (from looking at net_graph 3).

No,

Why ? Because i run all my games at 1024x768x32bit and at that resolution i have a hard time searching for jaggies while i'm fraging other players...

I think it is great for 800x600 and lower but at 1024 and above i find it useless ( for the games i play )

Well, I play mostly CS, Quake3 and FreeSpace2, and since all of those games can run in high res(cept FS2 stops at 1024) there's no need to use FSAA.

I don't, but I'd like too. The reason is that my current card(Viper2) doesn't have FSAA. Sometime in the spring I'll replace it.

I play all my games(UT, CS, NFS PU..and others) at 1024x768x32 and the jaggies are really noticeable. I look forward to the day when I need to look hard for aliasing! 😀

I use FSAA in every game I play. I really can't stand to play without it. I tried upping the resolution but is doesn't work that well, especially for pixel popping and texturing crawling.

I play all of my games with FSAA enabled. I don't see how I can play games again, without FSAA. They just look a lot better. It's about more than just jaggies.

No, my voodoo 3 3000 = no support and even if it did = really slow =(

O well, one of these days Iam goign to break and buy a Geforce 2 GTS.

I don't play games but like to know during fast pace games, do you guys stop and say oh look no jagged edges and then continue getting shot up ?

After I've seen what 4xFSAA can do, there is no turning back. Ultima IX simply looks awesome with it. 800x600 with 4xFSAA is the way to go. I bet V5 6000 can run Ultima IX @ 1024x768 with 4xFSAA very well.

NO!

My guillemont voodoo banshee doesn't support it and even if it did my games running at 640x480 at 40fps would be killed with any FSAA

LOL, I really need an upgrade. 🙂

i use it on older opengl games. It sho does look sweet, especially counterstrike in 1024x768 2x AA. What jaggies, i dont see any jaggies?

I play q3a without any FSAA, cause that game goes too fast to notice any jaggies. But UT, WoT, EQ, Half life, and i ton of other games, I use FSAA. Tribes looks awesome at 1024x768 @ 4x FSAA 🙂

Foresho: While playing a game, though you don't notice *all* the jaggies, there is definetly a noticeable degradation in video quality. It's like comparing Doom to UT or Q3A. When Doom first came out we were all like, "WOW!", but try it now and we're like, "YECH!". 😀

and its more than jaggies, it you have a voodoo (not so on the geforce) because it gets rid of popping and shimmering.

i tried fsaa on my geforce sdr with UT and it was playable, but the geforce's OGSS makes the text all mushy.

My video card doesnt support it and it would be ridiculously slow even if it did. But having seen FSAA in action plenty of times, if I had a card that could do it I'd run it in FSAA DEFINITELY!
I'd take 800x600 W/ 2x FSAA over 1280x1024 with no FSAA.

My new video card supports it(Geforce2 MX)but it`s really not powerful enough,to be honest have not tried it yet(FSAA)waiting for some serious firepower (NV20)before I try it with my T-bird 900.

No because my TNT2 does not support it and even if I had a video card that was capable, I feel for the games I play that it is not worth the performance hit.

Even though we can only see ~25 fps (our eyes that is), it drops the performance dow too far to frag happily for me. More jaggies = more target.
🙂😉🙂 Every little bit helps😛
