Similar to the Dell poll, I want to see how many Mac owners we have around here.

I own a Powerbook G4, a Macbook Pro soon I hope.

Macs are supposedly good but I have never used them. Too much money for relatively OK performance....

You can run windows on the new intel macs. The Macbook Pro supposedly stomps competitors in the benchmarks. Don't quote me on that, I have not gone seeking these benchmarks.

With the switch to Intel, Game developers may start making more games for the Mac. This may have been dampered by Apple releasing Boot Camp.

I don't game but as far as I know most popular games are available for the Mac. Like WOW.

Note: I am not trying to convince anyone, just dispelling some myths.

What option would you like? If you use a Mac, you either started with a Mac, or switched.

Would you like a do you use both option?

Yes, I have a Mac, but I have NOT been "converted" from Windows. Sure, Mac OS X is easier to use, but the software selection and device support still isn't there.

I use my mac mini as my primary desktop computer, but also use my IBM T41 laptop for most of my schoolwork...

That being said, im about to sell my G4 mini and upgrade to a dual core model... Prolly going to go the parallels route.

I'm in the same basic situation, Intel Core Solo Mini, Toshiba PM1.7 laptop, plus my gaming rig.

I'm planning on selling my Mini and my laptop once I get some more cash and will buy a MacBook Pro.

:)

why buy a macbook pro? doesn't the mini suffice?

note: i have a mini mactel with 1gb ram, 100gb hard drive, and a 24" Dell widescreen monitor, and this machine does suprisingly well for its size and power.

I use both. My primary computer is my dual 2.5 GHz PowerMac G5, and I have an IBM T43p laptop. I will also be ordering a 17 inch MacBook Pro after I read some reviews to make sure everything is kosher with it.

I also owned a 17 inch PowerBook G4 but that met an unfortunate end in an airport (the insurance money from that was used to get the T43p).

I personally think both OSes have a place, and I use both for different things. The think I like about the MBP is I can install windows as a dual boot, and the machine becomes the ultimate consulting machine.

EDIT: I also need windows for school, since my school is very windows centric for engineers.

Wife has a PowerBook G4 and I have a MacBook Pro. I also have a Dell 610 and C400 (laptops). Got the MacBook to edit video (and because its a Mac!) and work had no problem buying it for me. Bought it the day after they announced bootcamp! Wife got the PowerBook from her work a while ago. I use all of them depending on what I am working on and where it is (the C400 is really nice for travel). I would never switch completly but do enjoy using the Mac

Uhm, the only bad performers were the G4's in the past year or so. Before that, G4 was actually a very good processor. G5's, and the new Intel Mac's are amazing performers.

The only bad thing was the fact that IBM couldnt produce a mobile G5, so it kinda gave their mobile segment a bad image since they had amazing design, but comparitve to PC's, sh!tty performance.

Really? What about generic hardware support? The price/performance ratio still doesn't satisfies me. That said, I will still give it a try if an opportunity arises.

I own an iBook, its the best laptop I've ever used/owned. I wouldn't buy anything else.

*If* I could afford it... I'd buy an apple desktop too.

Influenced by my uncle to by a Mac, a few years ago I bought my first Mac mini. My current set-up includes a KVM to go between my PC and my Mac mini. Neither computers, speed wise are doing anything for me... and are hindering my productivity. In the end, both desktop machines will find their way out of here, and a 15.4" MacBook Pro will sit as a desktop replacement. I am influenced by the company I work for, but Boot Camp will keep me sane, gaming wise... the only reason why I have even kept my PC for the longest time.
