Why? Simple. It generates jobs. If EVERYONE always cleaned up after themselves we wouldnt need sanitation workers, janitors or people who use there community service time to pick up parks.
So, every time I throw a cup or can or wrapper out the window I smile and know that I am ensuring job securituy for someone and helping the economy go 'round. :)

That is a great way to look at is, I was looking for a reason to validate my litering

As the official "Miscellaneous Board Member of Ecology Club" last year, I feel it is my duty to not litter.

Your parents have apparently managed to rationalize having you, so anything's possible I suppose.

most smokers seem to think littering is ok, most of them have no problem flicking cigarette butts any old place/out the window of vehicles

I dont, and it makes me mad when other people do.

Personally I like living in a place where the outdoors is nice and clean. If i wanted to live in the slums, I'd move there.

I dont. But then again, I am an avid backpacker. I go on small weekend trips about once a month, and then once a year I make it out for a month at a time. Whenever I take friends camping (the lame carcamping, it kills some people to walk to a campsite) I make them clean the site so that it is cleaner then when we got there. Seriously, I spend an hour at least combing campsites, Ill clean the one next to ours as well. It doesnt hurt anything to take an extra hour or two out of my day to clean up a few sites.

Most of the time I don't litter, but sometimes its hard to find trashcans. I guess if the city counsel members wanted a clean city, they'd have more trash cans around.

So? Hold on to your trash. Is it that big of a deal?

I don't know how many times I've had, say, a fast-food bag or a wrapper for something in my hand until I got to my car and then I'd toss it in the trash when I got home.

I do it by habbit. I don't like to, and when I catch myself, I stop. But in highschool we found it funny *yes, you are about to read a really immature thing...if you flame me for this, you are just showing your immaturity* to hold a drink on the door while driving and then "accidently" drop it. We'd "freak out" and ask if we should turn around and get it...It always made people laugh, and that was my only goal in HS :).

::Drops drink:: "OH Sh!T!" Driver:"Dammit, should I turn around and get it?" Litterer: "F#ck! Ahh...nah, we'll pick it up on our way back!"

Right.. whatever you say. They always ask for tag number and i had to talk to DA so he'd make sure I'd testify. never went that far $1500 is cheaper than a lawyer.

All SANE people Call the Sheriff?s Office immediatly if you see someone littering. Especially dumping. That ones a whooping 10K and some jail time.
